It wasn't awfully late but it was far later than usual when Loella
exited Karhal's place and started home. The night was rather dark and
she carried a small lantern to light her way. She hummed a little tune
and smiled as she thought about how far she'd pushed him tonight. She
couldn't wait for the wedding and the time when she would be able to
spend the entire night in his arms.
"My lady?"
As ever, Daihmin *tried* not to suddenly loom out of the shadows at
the girl, but there wasn't much he could do other then keep his voice
soft and low. It was, after all, a loom-y profession.
Loella's heart leaped into her throat and she jumped back before she
saw who it wast. "Oh Daimhin," she said with her hand on her chest.
"You startled me!"
"My apologies..."
Ordinarily he would have quipped something, but he kept it very matter
of fact, a guilty heart twinging too loudly for mirth.
"...but you shouldn't be wandering around alone, lady."
Not as happily oblivious as she was, at any rate.
"Oh my goodness," she fanned herself as she tried to calm down.
"You're right of course." He had truly startled her and her body was
still reacting to it. "I left the pup at Karhal's tonight, or I would
have had her with me. I'm sorry, I was just on my way home. How are
you this evening? "
"I'll be a happier man if you let me walk you home. Otherwise, I am
fine, thank you.I trust you can say the same?"
She nodded grateful for the company. The night wasn't extremely late
but it was rather dark with no moons in the skies at the moment. "I'm
well, just a little tired," she said. Truthfully, she'd be much
happier when she no longer had to trudge back across the Hold after
making Karhal his dinner. "We'll be married in anoth month, then I
won't be having to walk out this late."
He shouldn't be letting her walk home alone, marriage or not. But
Daimhin didn't say it out loud.
"Then lets get you to your rest."
She smiled tiredly at Daimhin and brushed some hair behind an ear
where it had escaped from her normally smooth. "I think that is an
excellent idea. Sorry if I'm taking you out of your way."
"It would be my duty as a right-standing man even if I wasn't also a
guard, lovely Loella."
Which was why the captain would be in for it rather shortly.
Politely, he offered her an arm.
She took the arm and looked up at the sky. "It's so clear and
beautiful this late at night. Is it always like this?"
A smile a little too happy for the occasion flitted over his lips,
remembering another beautiful girl who like clear nights. It slipped
abruptly as he recalled himself.
"Yes. Winter makes it super clear, Summer leaves it achingly clear,
they all make it beautiful."
That was still a trace wistful. He blushed.
"Listen to me. Closet blooming romantic."
"Oh don't worry," she said patting his arm. "I won't tell anyone."
They walked for a few moments in companionable silence.
Her parents home was only a house away by now and her father stepped
out onto their small porch. "I was about to come looking for you
girl." He nodded at the guard. "Daimhin."
"Sorry papa," she said and slipped past her father and into the house.
"Thanks Daimhin," she called and waved to the guard.
