D'ale

D'ale

"Congratulations, my friend," Kenza said as she approached D'ale. "I
was pleased to hear all had gone well with your lady friend and the
babe."

They hadn't talked much these past few months and Kenza knew most of
it was her doing. Part of her recovery plan, however, was to face that
things that had been pulling her down. And D'ale and his now newborn
child were both a part of that. It was time to mend those pieces of
her own heart, so everyone, especially her, could move forward.

D'ale had just left Kenza alone knowing she was working through some
hard issues. So, having her approach and say those things took him
aback for a moment. But then he smiled and patted the seat next to
him. "Thanks," he said and beckoned the server over. "Fresh Klah," he
said.

She nodded her thanks for the order, glad he hadn't ordered something stronger.

"How are the babe and the mother doing?" She asked, deciding it was
best to start with discussion of the child. Perhaps then she'd be able
to talk to him about the other things and continue her healing
process.

He noticed how she did't use names for either his weyrmate or baby.
"They're fine," he replied. "Yanley had a rough go of it but she's
recovering. Daley has a very strong set of lungs." He grinned at her.
"How are _you_ doing?

Her eyes clouded a bit, but then cleared soon after. "I'm doing better
now. Thanks for asking. I hit a low there, which everyone knows
about," she paused and took a sip of her klah with a grimace, "but I'm
on the road to recovery now."

"I'm sorry Kenza," D'ale said softly. He'd said it before and he'd say
it again as many times as necessary.

She gave him a smile that was still a slight grimace. "It's not your
fault D'ale. It's mine. I allowed myself to spiral out of control and
I'm the one who has to put the pieces together." She paused, "But it
helps to have friends that I can turn to." She looked to him as she
said this, knowing that nothing would ever make her stop wanting him
to be a close friend with her.

"I know," he said softly and reached for her hand. "I'm sorry you were
hurt, that it made life spiral out of your control." He squeezed her
fingers lightly. "I'll always be your friend."

She smiled back at him. "I know, and I appreciate that. For it's the
friends in our lives who we can turn to in times of trouble."

She paused a moment and added, "It was a part of life. All of it. It
was hard, and I know it was hard for you as well, but I've come to
realize over these past weeks that the best thing to do is to keep
living. For a while I just pretended to do that, now I want to rebuild
once again where I left off. I've done it before. I can do it again."

D'ale chuckled. "I don't think I've ever tried to be so completely
faithful to a weyrmate before. I guess maybe this time I really want
to try and make her happy." He leaned forward. "I hope you find it
Kenza, I really do."

She nodded and replied, "I'm definitely on the right path now. I think
I needed time to reevaluate things." Then she gave him a half-teasing
grin, "I'm surprised you're being so faithful as well. I think you've
found a new path also." She chuckled. Having D'ale as a weyrmate to
her had not been something she'd wanted for most of her life.
Recently, she'd contemplated that, but then the feeling of losing her
freedom kept her from even that. Now, she realized that she had never
truly desired a weyrmate, but rather just the companionship. Kenza
liked her own space and freedom far too much to bend for anyone else.

"You and I are friends forever . If you ever need to talk I'm here."

"Thank you D'ale. I really do appreciate that," Kenza replied, picking
up her Klah and finishing it in one gulp. "Good luck getting sleep
with a youngling around," she gave him a slight smirk at that,
recalling how annoying it could be to have sleep interrupted by the
cries of a babe all night.
