Dockside Accident Pt 2 of 2

Writers: Avery, Chelle, Cymiri, Miriah, Paula, Suzee
Date Posted: 4th February 2014

Characters: Tamah, Riveenata, Drumilla, Rhosyn, Reeva, Tridan, Nekin
Description: An accident at the Weyr's dock
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 5, day 12 of Turn 7

"Don't move the victims, they might have spinal injuries. Healers are
coming!" Tamah instructed, he could already spot them running.

Tridan didn't know what to do. He looked down at the cursing man, swallowed
and knelt, moving debris off of him quickly. He kept his head down and
shoulders hunched, moving as quickly as he could.

Riveenata arrived with the other first responding healers and looked at the
scene. She saw a young boy moving debris off an individual and headed over
there. The man was cursing, which meant he was aware. "I'm here to help,"
she said. "Please don't move until we've taken everything off you and I can
examine you. Can you feel all of your body?"

After catching a ride with a carter going down the way, Rhosyn carefully
got down and looked around, seeing the commotion. She didn't want to get in
the way so for now she stood off to the side, watching. It was hard to hear
the noises and not be able to do anything about it. **There is something**
"Tamah is there anything heavy that you need lifted now?"

"Some of the heavier debris, maybe, if dragon could just fit in to the
dock," Tamah caught her idea right away. He moved to stand with her,
leaving room for the healers. "Also, we might need dragon to lift the
injured to the infirmary. Faster than carrying them in a stretcher."

"My legs!" the screaming man replied to Riveenata.

Dru tapped Tridan's shoulder. "You all right? Move aside, so we can check
the unconscious man."

It didn't take long for some mindspeech and Orlaith's ability to order to
produce two dragons. The first one was a green, D'lorn's Villith. The second
one was the Queen herself. "Villith can fit on the dock. Orlaith can carry."
Of course she could carry more than the green could. And she would be
steadier while flying. Her eyes whirled as she waited to be told what to do.
**Tell Villith to lift some of those** Rhosyn sent her a picture with her
mind. Orlaith picked it up immediately and sent it on the green. Villith
came forward on her forelegs, carefully, then began to pick up what she
could.

At the tap, Tridan hurriedly moved away, backing up until he hit a
standing crate. The thirteen turn old watched with wide eyes as the
hustle around the injuries and felt completely lost. He had never seen
an accident like this, with people hurt...especially when it might
have been his fault. He stayed quiet, bit his lip and wondered if he
should just slip away.

After the dragon had lifted away the larger, heavier debris, Dru
kneeled to inspect the unconscious man. He was bleeding from a head
wound. She placed a neck support on him and started to stem the
bleeding. Rest of the injuries could wait till the infirmary.

Sideways glance told her that Riveenata had the screaming man under
work. It was apparent he had compound fracture at least in one leg. "I
have a head injury, possible a skull fracture and possible internal
injuries," Dru reported to Reeva.

Riveenata ran her hands down the yelling man's legs. No bone was
poking out, but she could feel a disjunction that indicated a break in
the left leg. His right foot hung at an odd angle and it looked like
there was a fracture or break there too.

She quickly performed some checks for spine damage, then addressed
him. "Broken limbs. I'll arrange transit and be right back," she
promised.

"It hurts," the man said.

"I know." She rushed over to the others to report what she'd discovered. "One
man has broken leg bones, no spinal injury. Can we give him a minor
fells dose before transport to an infirmary? He's in a lot of pain."

"Give him this" Reeva's command was crisp as she thrust the little packet at her. It
was one of her own concoctions. "With a little water, but only a little."

Tamah went to help Dru to lift the unconscious man to the stretchers
and tie him down for the transportation.

Nekin had moved and restacked nearly every box when he found the man
wedged into a corner unconscious. "Healer," he called. "Over here!
Another one."

"Ah shells," Dru murmured. "This one is ready for taken to infirmary,"
she called and hurried up to see the newly found victim.

Riveenata took the packet from the Master Healer, acquired a small
glass of water, and took it back to the man. "Take this, and a swallow
of water. A small one," she warned.

The man complied and grimaced, holding out his hand for the water. She
passed it over and made sure only a little was taken.

"Now we're going to get you some transport." She looked around to see
if there was a free stretcher.

"How many do we have?" Rhosyn asked without moving. That was all they
needed-for the pregnant woman to get hurt too. Still, she needed to figure
it- knowing how many Orlaith could carry at a time. Villith could carry one
stretcher if push came to shove. The dragons were both watching the
commotion now curiously.

"It looks like only the two with serious injuries," Reeva answered
softly. "A few scrapes and startlements otherwise. People might call
us lucky." Even one injury wasn't lucky to her, but she understood the sentiment.

Tamah directed his men to build a second stretcher from the blanks and
ropes. At least they had those in plenty.

The first victim was already being carried towards the Weyr's infirmary.
Drumilla did triage on the third injured man. "Broken ribs, possibly
piercing his lung!" she called out to Reeva. This might be beyond her
skills, especially if they had to do something on the spot to prevent pneumothorax.

"Which ones do we need Orlaith to take?" That was the important
question. Rhosyn knew that time was of the essence. She looked at Reeva for confirmation.

"Probably the worst injured, we can carry rest," Tamah suggested.

Reeva nodded absently in support of Tamah's suggestion, her attention
already focused beyond, at the man in Drumilla's hands. Her inspection
was quick but capable.

"I don't think so. We may be lucky." There was that 'luck' again.
"But he'd best go with the dragons. As little movement as possible."

Nodding, Rhosyn worked with the healers and few strong crafters to
direct them how to secure the stretchers to Orlaith's carrying straps.
Fortunately, it didn't take long and then the big gold was rising carefully
to get the injured back to the Weyr.

It was a strange sight but she told the others she was coming and not
to worry. She wasn't carrying her rider-Rhosyn was in no danger.
