K'mai

"I am totally confused." He dug through his clothes, sorting the dirty
from the clean. He'd take the dirty to the bin so the drudges would get
it. They had his name sewn into them so there would no mixing things
up. E'rae's dark eyes were hard to read, but his facial expression said it
all.

"About what?" K'mai asked with a raised eyebrow.

"That flight the other day..." He turned around and put a hand on his
hip. "I woke up with Bahji." He went quiet as he waited for the whys and
hows to sink in.

"Woke up with her... did you go straight to her when you lost?"

"I didn't know I was. I just...did...or something. So...she decided she was
going to flightmoth. Because she wanted sex with me. K'mai...it could have
been anyone and she might have been hurt. And shells if I know why on Pern
she got such an idea into her head. She never seemed the type.."

K'mai's eyes widened. "She went down to the flight rooms? Hoping to
get you if you lost?" He frowned. "Was it because she didn't want you
to be with anyone else?" Holders could be very possessive about their
partners.

"I don't think so. She said she knew that it might not have been me. So that
means she accepted that bit I suppose." He sighed, clearly still not making any
sense of it with the Bahji he knew.

"Hmm. Do you think she was trying to prove something to you? Like she
was doing her best to accept Weyr life?" K'mai was glad E'rae had
ended up with her.

"I don't know. When I tried to ask her about it, she got all upset
at me." E'rae didn't understand her. He wasn't an expert on women but this
time he was stumped.

"Would it help if I talked to her?" K'mai asked.

"Shells if I know. Give it a shot I guess. Can't hurt." In his opinion, K'mai wasn't
much better with women but maybe his friend could at least keep her from getting
all mad and find out something useful.

"Sometimes it's easier to have someone with a bit of distance from the
situation. Hopefully she won't be too embarrassed to talk to me."
Whatever the details of the situation, Bahji hadn't left the hold
that long ago and might not be willing to discuss such a topic with K'mai.

"Hopefully. We'll see. I just...I don't know. Every time I think I have her
pegged, she goes and does something that doesn't make any sense."
He was beginning to wonder.

"Well, she's been through a lot," K'mai said gently.

"That's true." **Then again so have I. That was my child too. Everyone seems to
forget that** He got quiet then and went back to messing with his clothes.

K'mai didn't like seeing his friend down, and Bahji was such a sweet
girl. He hoped they could work things out. "It's probably just a bit
of miscommunication. I'll try to get to the bottom of it."

"OK. Lemme know." That was all he wanted to say on the subject just
then. Throwing his clothes in the bin, he moved on to the next chore.
