Characters: H'mos
Description: Herimos arrives and has a few problems with old memories
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 2 of Turn 3

Herimos carefully slid from the back of the dainty green. He looked around at the activity. The weyr was larger than he thought it would be. He looked back at the greenrider and smiled his thanks. He chuckled as he was handed his canine. The poor beast had not liked a ride on the dragon. The long eared spotted canine was more than happy to be away form the, in his estimation, very large dragon. Herimos followed the directions he was given and made his way to the headwoman's office.

He walked slowly so he could take in everything. He watched as dragons landed and took off around him. He watched as a group of weyrlings fed their young dragonets. He marveled at the colors in the young dragonets hides. He smiled as one brown dragonet tried to get his weyrling's attention and the boy was knocked over by the small beasts enthusiasm. He couldn't help but stand there and watch. Watching these small beast made him want one of his own all the more. After a few moments of breathless watching he decided he had beast move on.

He walked across the weyrbowl and stopped a moment as s young female greenrider waved and gave him a teasing smile. It was all he could do not to put his head down and run. He gave her a kindly wave and moved on as quickly as was polite. Once out of sight he leaned against a wall and tried to still his heart. He knew he would have to take a chance. It was just how they were here at the weyr. Women were freer. It didn't make it easier though. He had sworn off love. It was just too hard. After losing the only woman he would ever love.

He took a moment. It was a moment he had not meant to take. But, with the memories still so fresh, he knew it would come. He remembered her smile, and the way her hair would fall. He remembered her deep brown curls that cascaded down her tanned back. Her soft brown eyes would drink in his every move. He remembered the touch of her soft skin and the whisper of her lips against his. Yes he remembered all she had meant to him. Then came the memories he didn't want. He remembered her pale skin and sunken eyes. He saw her again as she lay in their bed and wasted away. He watched her as she seemed to disappear before him and no one seemed to be able to help her.

Tears fell unbidden from his eyes. He closed them as he leaned his head back. Why did he have to go through the memories here? He had hoped to leave those behind. He took a moment to compose himself and decided he had best move on. He glanced down to see that his canine was still with him. He bent down to give the beast a good rub. He took comfort in the canine's love and devotion and tried to forget that he was escaping sadness.

"Come Lord Puddles, We must see the headwoman and find out where we are to stay." He sighed but then took a deep breath and continued on his way.
