Relea

Relea

Coran had thought a lot about it and he just couldn't see the benefit
of prolonging his engagement to Relea. He'd already received Leaton's
blessing to court her and he didn't want to wait for the man to change
his mind about letting Coran marry his sister. The time it would take
to set up a "proper" wedding at Green Valley would take too long,
especially when they could just travel up to Emerald Falls and have
one of the harpers there perform the ceremony.

Now, all he had to do was convince Relea that this was the right thing to do...

Having rehearsed his speech to himself multiple times, Coran showed up
outside his betrothed's door and knocked.

There was no answer, at least until Coran actually opened the door.
Relea had made a habit to keep it unlocked so that those who needed
her could come in without worry. If it was locked, then everyone
would know she either wasn't there or unavailable. Movement out of
the corner of her eye drew her gaze away from the hat she was working
on and to the man she'd seen so much of the last few months. "Hello."
She signed with a single hand, then set aside her work and rose. "I
didn't expect you this soon."

Coran smiled, his hands going to Relea's shoulders as he pressed a
kiss to her forehead. He would much rather be kissing her lips but
after their last evening together, Coran already knew that he had
trouble not crossing the line when it came to Relea and physical
contact, "I need to talk with you about something."

"Okay." It was a simple gesture that began with a 'k' flipped. She
motioned for the healer to step inside, her eyes checking for curious
eyes and babbling mouths before she closed the door. She supposed it
was better to have rumours about Coran than Reven. "What is it?" She
queried after she turned back to him. "Is something wrong?"

"No," Coran smiled, "everything is great." He sat down on the edge of
her bed, as inappropriate as that probably was, and pulled her to sit
down beside of him, "Relea I have been thinking, about us, about
getting married...." He hesitated a moment as he searched her eyes,
"And I just can't see why we are waiting? I_know_ that I want to
marry you, and if you feel the same way about me.... Then why don't we
run off to Emerald Falls and get married?"

To be honest, Relea didn't want to marry anyone else. Who else was
there to marry? Nico? No, she'd long put him behind her. With the
way their society was, she knew she'd have to get married or wind up
an old maid. Then Reven had introduced Coran and once more a man had
shown interest in her, in her language, in seeing what was beyond the
silent surface. He'd earned her respect. She cared for him. Loved.
No, she wasn't sure she could call it that, but she could see it
happening. She liked him a lot. He had a point - why wait? A slow
smile spread over her lips and she inclined her head in affirmation.

"Yes?" Coran breathed, smiling as he pulled Relea into his arms for a
hug, and then pulled back so she could read his lips, "If we pack
tonight we can leave first thing in the morning."

"I won't take long." She assured him. Relea was not like many women
- she didn't need a bunch of bags. She cold get away with a couple of
every day dresses and one nice one. She'd be ready in ten minutes -
if that. "Have you said anything to your brother? Or mine?"

Coran shook his head, "No, and I don't know if I want to," he chuckled
a little, "because I don't want Reven trying to tell me to think
things through, and I don't even want to know what your brother would
have to say about it."

"I think he's just glad someone more than a drudge is willing to marry
me." Relea wasn't about to ask and put that to the test, however.
"All right. Tomorrow. Just before dawn?" If they left earlier,
there would be fewer to notice and ask questions. "Who will take your
spot as healer?"

"Don't worry about that, I will get someone to cover for me." Coran
smiled, and cupped Relea's face between his hands, "I am so ready to
be your husband, Relea."

Which was more than any other man had said. Relea smiled, grateful
that Reven had chosen such a man for her. She couldn't ask for anyone
better.
