If they were going to do something about the recent occurences, it was
time to act. Leaton had come up with plan, but it required impeccable
timing. Fortunately, luck was on his side. Coran had left the hold,
taking Relea with him. Arippa had left already for the day, but Reven
had lingered.
"Now, you make sure he drinks that." Leaton murmured. "Do you have
sufficient linens to cover him in the laundry cart?" Leaton glanced
into the vehicle in question. It was how they would remove the holder
without the knowledge of the rest of the hold. Emalla had been
assigned to laundry duty, the perfect cover. Leaton himself had made
certain that he'd not been seen in the area of the Holder's chambers
and remained in the shadows, even though no one else beyond Emala was
present. "Open the door when he's out. I'll slip in, you bring in
the cart and together we'll get him inside and cover him. Understand?"
Emalla nodded, determined not to let Leaton down, after all, if his
plan went smoothly she could be the next Holder's wife someday. A
healthy dose of fellis had been poured into a small beaker which
Emalla carried in her apron pocket. Knocking on the holder's door she
called out, "Laundry, sir!"
Reven was inside the room with his forehead braced in his hand. He had
been suffering from a severe headache ever since that morning and was
doing what work he could in his room that day so that he wouldn't be
interrupted as often. "Come in." He called back.
Meekly entering the room with a downcast face, Emalla murmured, "I'll
be done in a flash, milord."
"Thank you." Reven answered back momentarily turning his back on the
woman to grab a book from the shelf.
While the man was looking elsewhere Emalla flipped open the small tube
and dumped the fellis into his drink. Slipping the empty container
back into her apron she moved to the bed and began stripping the
comforter and sheets off. She watched as Reven turned his cup up and
took another drink. Over the course of the next few minutes Emalla
continued casting furtive glances at the holder until he swayed and
fell limply from his chair to the floor.
"I need the laundry cart." She called casually opening the door.
With furtive glances cast in all directions to be sure he would not be
spied, Leaton darted into the room, the metal cool as he clutched the
handle and shoved the cart through the doors. The door clicked behind
him and his gaze fell upon the still form of the Holder. "You
remember where to take him, right?" Reven would have to be hidden
until they could retrieve him and sneak him out of the Hold. That
would happen in an hour when Emalla's shift had ended.
"I do. How are you going to make it look like he was murdered?" Emalla
asked, one eyebrow arched. Leaton had never shared that much of the
plan.
"You just let me worry about that my dear. Watch and learn."
Fortunately, the doors to the quarters were thick, which meant very
little noise made it outside. When one caled to get someone to enter,
their voice had to be sufficiently loud. Combine that with a time
when there were fewer people in the hallways near Reven's quarters,
Leaton could do a little redecorating without worrying about getting
caught. Hopefully. If he_did_ attract attention, then he'd have to
deal with it.
From within the pockets inside his coat, Leaton withdrew several
vials of blood. He clicked his tongue. "You didn't think I'd come
unprepared, did you?" He placed the vials upon a table, then set
about wrapping rope around Reven's hands. With the holder bound,
Reven was dragged and heaved into the laundry cart. That done, Leaton
set about redecorating. It only took a few moments, chairs knocked
over, wood splintered, parchment tattered and strewn about. He was
precisely random in his chosen placement and enhance the feeling of a
struggle by taking great glee in breaking things. A few moments
later, he reclaimed the vials, then kicked over the table upon which
they had been placed. One by one, he opened them, then scattered the
blood.
"There should be enough here to make them realise that there is no way
he could have survived." Reven cackled softly, then replaced the
corks and tucked the vials back inside the pockets.
