The Experience I need

Writers: Avery, Bree

Characters: Y'sani, L'pin
Description: Y'sani shows up at his old Weyr to enlist the assistance of his friend and former 'third.
Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 9, day 28 of Turn 3

Y'sani didn't bother to knock on L'pin's door. Instead he gave it an enthusiastic kick before charging straight into his former Wingthird's office. "I'd better not see any slacking going on in here!"

"I resent that!" L'pin automatically replied before looking up. "Y'sani?" he asked in shock. "What are you doing here?"

Y'sani pulled a chair out and sank into it, propping his feet up on L'pin's desk with a smirk. "I'm coming to get you. Pack your bags, L'pin. I am not going another day without your picky, obnoxious arse being in charge of my sharding files. My head has never hurt so badly in my entire life."

"I should have known you'd fall apart without me." he retorted. "But are you really meaning to bring me there? To Dolphin Cove?" **Chaneth, how would you feel about that?** he queried quickly.

The heavily built blue considered things. }:It is warm, and I would like it.
I could see Luthinath again. I miss talking with him.:{ He nodded thoughtfully. "I would like that. But..." he hesitated. "Are you sure you can just kidnap me like this? I'm sure it's fine with our old Weyrleader, but how's your new one? He's going to let you kidnap me?"

Y'sani snorted. "J'darin knows he needs all the riders he can get. He's a good enough man and I already told him I need to do things my way to get my job done. I need a Wingsecond, and I don't see why I should train some brownrider or bronzerider at Dolphin Cove to do your job when we're so short on brownriders and bronzeriders that we're _still_ borrowing them from other Weyrs."

"As long as you're sure you'll be f-" L'pin paused, his brain registering.
"Second?!" he asked in shock. "But those _are_ bronze and browns, Y'sani, and... but I'm only... Me, a Second?" The normally calm man was reduced to spluttering in shock.

"Not always," Y'sani replied evenly. "When the wings are short riders, 'seconds are whoever we think can handle it. Chaneth's as big as some of the smaller browns, so that's not going to be a problem. And you've got the experience I need."

L'pin, still shocked, nodded. "Well then, I'd be honored, absolutely honored." He laughed slightly. "I thought for sure you'd be glad to be rid of me and my criticisms."

"You've been a pain in my arse since we Impressed," Y'sani retorted with a wide grin. "After so many turns, I think I got used to having you around to _be_ a pain. I'll talk to your Weyrleader... I know he'll miss you, but he'll understand why I need all the help I can get at Dolphin Cove."

L'pin smiled. "In that case, how can I refuse you? I've never been able to before, and I won't now. When will you want me to arrive? I'll probably have to wrap up things here, and I have to speak to Ruumin." He paused, the thought of his adopted son reminding him. "By the way, isn't the Harper Hall there now?"

"They are indeed. The Hallmaster has been kind enough to lend me an archivist to help me out, but I suppose I can give him back now that you're coming to take over the mess." Y'sani pulled his feet off of his friend's desk and moved to stand. "As for when... don't waste much time. I'm going to find the Weyrleader now. If you're not in an office at Dolphin Cove by the end of the sevenday, I'm coming back to drag you by the back of your tunic."

"Alright, alright!" L'pin put his hands up defensively and laughed. "I can be there as soon as I'm allowed to be." He added, more seriously. "Tomorrow or the next day. And then you'll have to tell me all about the weyrlings, and show me where I'll be working- did you mention an office?- and _then_
I'll have to see what kind of mess you've made of the files." He laughed, the humor he showed around his friends peeking out again. "It won't be long before I'll be there."

"I'll be counting the days," Y'sani promised, slapping his old friend on the shoulder. "Now, I'm going to go take care of convincing the Weyrleader that I need you more than he does. Luthinath will be in contact with Chaneth."

"Alright. Meanwhile, I'll tie up things here so I'll be ready when you call.
Now get out!" L'pin joked, looking back down at his desk.
