Reven

Sending the message with a runner, Sarban was hoping he could perhaps
solve a problem and provide Reven with some help.
After all, the woman was highly competent. The only problem was everyone knew
who she was and where she came from. That was just not done. Sighing, he sat
back in his chair and hoped they could solve this issue soon.

The
letter read:

Holder Reven,

We at Emerald Falls have had a very interesting visitor. It seems the
Weyr's Headwoman is looking for work. Why I do not know and I don't
presume to ask the Weyrleaders. Still, with so many turns managing so
much, she is an undeniable asset. Unfortunately for us, we do not have
enough work for her really. Lady Felyna says she wouldn't fit in with
our current staff and might feel strange ranking beneath someone after
so long. So we were thinking perhaps you might offer her
work.

She's a very healthy lady and is indefatigable. I had never met her
before now. Anyhow, please talk it over and reply whenever you
can.

In Service,
Sarban

When the runner arrived at Green Valley, Reven was out in the fields
overseeing the seeding of one of the fields that they had left barren
the Turn before in order to give the soil some time to recover.
Looking up, Reven knew the unmistakable gait of a messenger when he
saw one, so he waved on his men to continue working while he walked to
meet the runner.

"Message for you sir." The winded youth said.

"Thank you, go on inside and get something to eat and drink." Reven
said, dismissing the messenger as he unfolded the letter and read
through it. He was surprised, but pleased by the contents. Green
Valley could use an experienced Headwoman, especially since he was
hoping that within the next Turn Arippa might be pregnant with their
heir. She would need a good woman to help her around the Hold.

Walking inside, Reven retreated to his office and drafted up a letter
addressed to this Headwoman, offering her the position at Green
Valley. On Sarban's letter he wrote a quickly reply, "Sarban, I
appreciate you thinking of Green Valley. We would be delighted at the
opportunity to have an experienced Headwoman. I'm attaching an offer
for the woman with this letter. See that she gets it?" Once the letter
was finished, Reven sent it with a fresh runner and returned to the
fields.

When it came in, Sarban read it and smiled to himself. That would solve many
problems if only the woman would be fine with going to a smaller hold. He would
need to tell Corowal and give the woman her message. To be honest, he was slightly
afraid of her himself.

And so he passed the message on.

~*~

Reven-the woman is agreeable. We are sending her to you. Please look for her soon.

That message came over the drums-short as it was.

Down at Green Valley the drummer on duty carefully took down the
message and sent it to Reven. The minor holder was quite pleased with
the acquisition.... He just hoped Arippa felt the same way.
