"K'ale!" Cardella called out and hurried over to him in the dining
hall. She threw her arms around him from behind with a giggle and a
smile.
"I'm glad to see you today," she said sliding into a seat beside him.
He lifted an arm over her head as she slid next to him and grinned
pulling her close for a hug. "Good to see you too. How was training
today?"
She snuggled in a little closer. "It was good," she replied. "Awenth
does well within the ranks. She's very fast and able to maneuver
around the queens when she's needed. How about you?"
"Just fine," he said. "Been keeping my head down and just trying to
master all the formations to keep my group together and in the right
place at all times. So far we've been doing well."
She smiled at him, reaching a hand over to pluck a piece of melon
fruit off his tray.
"Delicious," she mumbled as she licked her fingers. "So what are your
plans for the rest of the day?"
"Not much thief," he smiled and wiped a small drop of juice off her
chin with a finger. "How about you? Got any ideas?"
She shrugged and smiled, "Nah, not really. Unless you'd like to do
something together?" She grinned. She _wanted_ to spend time with
K'ale more than anything. She didn't care what it was that they
did....just relaxing or even enjoying the more intimate side of their
friendship that had developed.
"Would you like to go to the Waterball practice with me? I just made the team."
She smiled. "That sounds like fun. I'd love to." **And get to see you
without your shirt on for a bit,** she grinned privately to herself.
"Alright," he said. "Meet me at the winter lake in about two candlemarks."
~
She was eager to see the waterball practice as she headed down to the
lake at the designated time. Her face lit into a smile the instant she
recognized K'ale standing among some of the other team players.
He waved as their session broke and he turned and dove into the water
with hardly a splash. The team began the practice in earnest. Yelling
and laughing they did their best to drown each other while trying to
control the ball and get it into the other net.
He hadn't had that much fun in a long time and when he finally dragged
himself out of the water he was exhausted. Grabbing his kit he plopped
down next to Cardella. "So what did you think?"
"It's rough at times, but you did great," she replied, smiling over at
him as his skin glistened with drops of water. "I don't think it's the
sport for me, but I sure enjoyed watching it."
"Yeah it's rough," he said rubbing his ribs. That Tavia gave me a swift kick."
"Aww, my poor man. Did it hurt?" She gave him a playful grin as she
reached over to rub her hands along his ribs as though checking for
serious injuries.
"Hey," he chuckled, twitching the ticklish side away from her soft
hands then relaxing when he realized she wasn't going to tickle him.
"Not so much at the time. But it kind of smarts now."
"Aw, maybe I can make it feel better?" She said, her tone
light-hearted as her eyes lit up with playful thoughts. She leaned
over and kissed his ribs. "Did that help?" She grinned.
"Oh, much better," he grinned. "But I hurt all over."
"Oh really?" She asked playfully. "Maybe we should retire to your weyr
where I can give a more thorough examination and kiss all your
injuries away?" She lifted a suggestive eyebrow towards him.
"That sounds like a plan," he grinned and hopped to his feet to gather
his things. "Come on," he said shifting them to one arm and grabbing
her hand with the other.
Cardella didn't need a second invitation. She popped up to her feet,
hand held firmly in his. Her eyes were blazing with joy and excitement
all at once. "Lead the way, K'ale. I'll be right beside you."
He grinned and turned toward the stairs picking up his pace. He dared
to believe that where she wanted to be was under him. That was a very
bright prospect indeed.
