K'sedel

K'sedel

Tsaera stretched, tangling the sheets between her toes and then letting herself go limp. The dragon-lust had left her wrung-out and more relaxed than she'd been in what seemed like turns. Tabanirth and Nikornath lay on the couch beyond the weyr's wall, twined together and half-asleep, just as she lay with K'sedel. "You and U'das are the first Weyrleaders I've had who have both been Weyrleaders twice in a row."

"Is that some sort of record?" asked K'sedel sleepily. His memories of the flight mingled with those of Nikornath's. Even in sleep, the bronze was radiating contentment and satisfaction.

"It is, actually." Tsaera cuddled down beside him and put her head on his shoulder. He'd probably shoo her away when his arm went numb, but she didn't particularly care. "Tabanirth used to be extreamly fickle in her choice of mate. When we were younger, I had a different Weyrleader each flight."

He shifted his weight slightly to allow both of them to get comfortable. "Perhaps she knows now that in a pass we need to have some sort of continuity?" he suggested. Not that he was displeased to be there. This, was after all what he and Nikornath had aimed for, the Weyrleadership.

The Weyrwoman shook her head. "No. We've been in a Pass for turns now. I think it's you and U'das, as well as your dragons."

"I'm honoured by that thought," he said after a moment.

"You should be! I never thought that I'd see the same man twice in a row - twice. Tabanirth's been caught by the same bronze before, but not usually twice in a row. And you and U'das have been very good to me."

"I try my hardest," he grinned. "After all, you've been good to me too, that stack of hide work and, and..." He paused to think, and failing to come up with anything else, the grin became a smile.

The Weyrwoman snickered. "Yes, and the hidework. _You_ might not be so happy about the pile on your desk, but it sure cuts down on what was on mine!"

"I can only imagine," from what little he had seen of Tsaera's second, he couldn't really imagine her attacking hidework with gusto. To him it was a necessary evil.

They were quiet for a time, and Tsaera smiled a little as she felt herself drifting off to sleep. "K'sedel?"

"Mmmm?" was the similarly sleepy reply.

"I'm glad that Nikornath won a second time."

"So am I," there was more feeling behind that statement than he realised as he thought on it. "So am I."

"Good. There's nothing worse than a reluctant Weyrleader." Or one that she couldn't stand...

"Now why would you think that?" he teased.

She missed the joke. "Because I've had one or two, thankfully before the Pass started. It's worse than having no Weyrleader at all, and I'm not power-hungry enough to think I can run a Weyr by myself."

"Well I'm here now, at least until the next time she rises."

"Until the next time," she agreed. That was more than a few months away, and Tsaera drifted off to sleep secure in the knowlege that until then, she'd have someone she trusted by her side.
