Mirdelo knocked on the door of his sister's apartment. "It's Mirdelo," he
said.

"Come in," Mirdella replied, opening the door. "Nice to see you." A
friendly face, just what she needed.

He stepped in the door and smiled at his favorite sibling. "How are you
feeling?"

"Ugh," she made a face. "I had run in with Sisellah and I miss father
terribly," she answered with a sigh.

"What did she do to you?"

"She threatened to throw me out of my home, to move us some dirty farmer's
cot," Mirdella said incredulously. "We have lived in this place since the
day we married."

"She said what?" Her brother's voice raised in shock. "She can't do that!
I'm going to speak to the Headwoman. We'll have to do some reorganization
now that father's gone, but she can't push out a legitimate member of the
family."

"Well, I sure ain't gona budge from this apparment," Mirdella agreed
with him. "Besides, Inarys' father was close friend to our father. I
bet he doesn't want to see his grandchildren living in a hovel."

"Of course not," he said. "All of our father's children need to be
located inside of the hold. You know, she's probably just jealous
because she'll have to lose her apartments."

"Oh, yes, it belongs to Demir now," Mirdella said and made a note to
herself to butter up her older brother a little when he came back.
"Any news from him and Kobias?"

"None yet, but I haven't checked." He sighed, thinking that if dealing
with all these personalities was what the holder's job would be, he
wasn't sure he wanted it.

"I hope the weather doesn't prevent them getting back in time for the
memorial," Mirdella said with some worry.

"Hopefully not. And ideally they'll have some interesting news from
the Hold as well."

Mirdella nodded and paced. "Uh, this situation is so unbearable. Why
father left such conditions? It' messing up everyone's lives. Just one
clear verdict of who inherits and this situation would have been
avoided."

"Even an unfavorable permanent verdict might have been better," he
agreed. "I guess he wanted to give himself a chance to back out..."

"Hah, turn us agains each other more likely," Mirdella snorted.

"He should have known that would be bad for the hold." And the hold
was paramount; Mirdelo knew that, Demir knew that, Mirdella knew that,
even Kobias knew that. They would have to figure something out.

Mirdella nodded. Despite her ambitions and scheming, she did love
Hidden Meadows. The place was home.

He sighed. He missed his father, even when the man complicated all
their lives again. "Do you want me to step in with Sisallah?" he
asked.

"Right now, I don't have the energy dealing with her, so yes, please,"
Mirdella answered. "I'm doing preparations for the memorial, she just
couldn't do it all herself and I still have family to take care too."

He nodded. "Demir asked me to handle the preparations as well, so why don't
you tell me what you'd prefer to keep your own touch on, and what you can
pass off to me?" He assumed that the women would want to give some parts a
sensitive feminine touch, and some parts they might want a man to handle.
"I would be happy to deal with her instead of you. She can't doubt my
authority."

"I'm doing the quest list and decorations. I don't mind those but I might
need help getting the invitations sent. We need to invite people from
neighbouring holds and from Amber Hills too. Old tradepartners and allies
and such," Mirdella listed out.

"I'd be happy to put the Stewards' stamp on those and arrange for their
delivery via trusted courier." Sometimes he wished his sister had been
another brother - she'd have been a keen choice to run the hold.

"Thank you Mirdelo," she said with a smiled. Talking to him always made her
feel better.

Impulsively, he pulled her into a hug again. "She's not going to ruin what
we've built."

"We won't let her. Together we're stronger than her," Mirdella said with
determined tone.

He nodded in agreement. "I should get back to work...but can I spoil my
nephews and niece first?"

"Of course, they are always happy to see you," Mirdella said and gestured
towards the childrens room. "Boys should be doing ther harper homeworks."

"Well I won't take their attention for too long, then."

"They'll always happy of any excuse to skip homework," Mirdella grinned.
