A Promising Beginning

Description: A difficult candidate cozies up to a bronzerider but the results surprise them both
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 6, day 20 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Rhosyn

Settling into his seat, it didn't take long for Simay to land on the
table before him, the still flapping fish clutched tightly in her
front claws. "Ugh, Simay! You could have at least dried it off
first," he groaned and carefully wiped the spots of water off the
table so his wingmates wouldn't complain. They didn't ... they got up
and left instead. "Great, see what you did?"

The little green trilled before taking a delicate bite, unfazed by her
pet's embarrassment.

It wasn't hard to miss the sudden movement away from the table near
her. On kitchen duty, which she abhorred, she took a moment to glance
at the man who had caused the exodus from the table. Her brows arched.
**My, my...isn't he a nice tall one...** Her eyes flicked to his
shoulders and then glinted. Finally...a bronzerider. None of these
half-ranked imbeciles that had been trying to catch her eye. Picking
up her cleaning cloth, she moved quickly to help, wiping up the water
with quick strokes. "Let me help you, Bronzerider."

Glancing up, S'ber was surprised to see the pretty young woman helping
clean up. "Oh, thank you ..." he said, leaving an open question for
her name if she wanted to give it. Simay shifted to keep her prize
fish from the possible thief.

He was polite. Hmm. Eirlira rethought her approach and smiled
demurely. "Eirlira, Bronzerider." She looked over at the flit and then
back at him through her lashes. "Perhaps a napkin for your flit? To
keep the water off? I can fetch it if you like."

The edge of S'ber's lips twitched at the image of Simay using a napkin
as she ate her fish. It was a picture of insanity and the amusement
was reflected in his hazel eyes. "Sure, Eirlira. This should be
interesting," he answered as he set his now soaked napkin beside his
tray. "And another for me, if you wouldn't mind?" The fact that she
was flirting with him seemed beyond him since so few women even tried.
His size simply kept them away.

She bobbed a quick curtsey and hurried to get two napkins as her mind
worked. A bronzerider. Not a highly ranked one, to be sure, but it
could happen. Her lower lip pursed as she gathered what was requested.
Now, how to get to him.... Coming back to the table, she handed him
both napkins. Her voice was a soft purr. "My pleasure of course."

Accepting them, S'ber smiled at the girl before handing one to Simay.
The dark green flit paused and looked between the cloth and him then
at Eirlira as if to say 'just what am I supposed to do with that?'
S'ber chuckled and set the napkin under the fish to catch any of the
dripping water. "Have you ever seen anything so silly, Eirlira?" he
asked before he looked up at her, noting her prettiness more than before.

She allowed herself a soft laugh, but kept her gaze completely on the
man across from her. "No, but it's rather sweet, really. I don't have
a flit, so I'm afraid I know little of them and what they do." She
shifted in her stance, her posture accenting her curves. "Perhaps you
could educate me in what I don't know."

Now that hit home and S'ber was amazed he wasn't blushing as his eyes
traveled down her curvaceous form then back up to her eyes. She was
one of those types of candidates, hm? "Perhaps I could ... how long
have you been at the Weyr?"

Finally. He got the hint. "A couple of months. Not very long. They
keep me very busy." She gestured around the dining hall. "Hardly any
time for fun."

"Now that's a shame ..." he said as he settled back in his seat, arms
crossed over his chest. Did he want to get involved with an ambitious
candidate? S'ber briefly thought of Rhosyn's teasing and found it
amusing how brazen this girl was. "Your shift is almost over now, is
it not?" It had been too long since he was a candidate.

**Don't give in too quickly** Eirlira reminded herself. **Keep
him...dangling.** She sighed. "I have another candlemark to go and
then lessons after that."

"Ah, then perhaps another time, Eirlira," S'ber said with hidden relief as
he picked up his spoon to dig into his stew. He'd have to ask about her
from the werylingmasters, get an idea of just what she was looking for.
"That is, if you'd like a ride sometime."

She tilted her head and looked at him through her lashes. "Tomorrow then?
After lunch?"

"After lunch it is," he answered. S'ber knew of a nice place they could go
that hopefully she'd appreciate. "We'll pick you up outside the barracks.
Be sure to wear your heavy jacket."

Her smile widened and satisfaction lit in her eyes. "I'll be waiting."

"Off with you now before you get in trouble," he said before taking a bite
of the stew. S'ber knew that look, like the feline that ate the flitterby.

The grumbling from his bronze the next day when he was told they'd be
taking a candidate for a ride was cut short when he was told where they
were going. The large, lazy bronze landed before the candidate barracks
and bent to allow S'ber down. The big man was dressed in casual gear which
would give no indication as to where they were going.

Eirlira came out of the barracks, dressed in snug fitting leathers; they
were suitable for riding but were obviously meant to catch the eye as well.
Her curly mass of hair swept back behind her shoulders and she walked with
purpose towards the bronze and its rider. She met S?ber with an easy smile.
?So, what is the plan??

S'ber wasn't shocked as Eirlira approached but he did smile and softly
whistle. "If I were a weaker man, I'd be worried," he said as he extended
his hand to her. "There's somewhere I want to take you. How often have
you flown?"

Dylorth lowered to give them access, eyes gently whirling as he studied the
girl. She was ... mysterious and not truly in a good way. He would have
to keep an eye on her.

Eirlira took his hand and gazed at him with complete confidence. "If you
were a weak man, you wouldn't be interesting." She looked over at Dylorth
and flashed a smile at him. "A few times. I'm not afraid of flying, or
/between/."

"Excellent ... after you," he grinned, watching her lovely rear end as she
made her way up. This wasn't the girl that he met in the dining hall. She
seemed much more relaxed today. "Do you like surprises?"

Eirlira hid her little smirk as she settled into place behind the bronze?s
neckridge. Everything was working out just the way she wanted it to. She
could feel the big hulk's eyes on her rump like they were heat spots. She
hoped he liked the view. The bigger they were, the less blood reached the
brains. She settled in securely and waited for him to climb up and strap
her in. She pursed her lips. "Usually." She graced him with a sultry
smile. "What kind of surprise?"

Stepping up and settling behind her, he quickly buckled them both in before
answering. That she found him interesting was intriguing but he was
curious about what that interest was. His rank, more than likely. "You
have two choices ... getting naked or having your breath taken away," S'ber
said against her cheek as he reached around her to place her hands on the
pommel. His long thighs were pressed against hers as he set his feet in
the stirrups. "What's your decision?"

She shivered at the breath on her cheek and popped off with a smug smile.
"You mean if I get naked, I won't get my breath taken away?" She made a
moue of disappointment. "Pity. I figured with your size, I would be
pleasantly surprised."

It was a good thing S'ber was behind her as his face bloomed with color.
His words didn't come out right, as usual, but there was no going back
now. "One day, perhaps, but not both today. Now answer the question."

Dylorth extended his wings as he pushed up, getting them up into the air.
He circled slowly while waiting for directions on where they were going.
Listening to their conversation, he began to see that the girl being in
his riders life could be a good thing.

"Really? Even more a pity." She wiggled back against him and smirked, her
hips brushing the crux of his thighs. "Oh...perhaps I'll be very
surprised." This was working out perfectly! Soon he'd be wrapped so tightly
around her finger that she'd finally have someone in a position of rank to
back her when she needed it. And if he wasn't good in the furs, well...she
could act well enough if he proved to be worth the effort. "Well, let's see
if you can take my breath away."

His fingers itched to touch her in a very private spot as she wriggled
against him but he stopped himself. This wasn't the time for that as he
gave the visual to Dylorth. The bronze was happy to comply since it was
one of his favorite places.

Appearing over the Sea of Azov, the bronze slowly circled to land on the
top of the island where the view all around was incredible. The mountains
to the south were covered with snow as were the great barrier ranges east
and west of the sea. There was a slight breeze but it wasn't freezing
today. S'ber took a deep breath and gazed out over the north. "We come
here when we need peace and quiet, to listen to the wind and feel like the
only living beings on Pern," he said with a small smile.

Eirlira fell silent at the view, ceasing her movement as she took it in.
The thoughts of seducing the bronzerider fell away as she soaked in the
beauty of it, and for a moment, her face was gentled. Then, she caught
herself, cleared her throat and straightened. "It is lovely."

Her lack of comment made him smile and he was about to wrap his arms around
her when she cleared her throat and straightened. Ahh, it was like that,
then. "Yes, it is. Would you like to get down and stretch your legs?"

"Yes, I would." She looked over her shoulder at him, her smirk back on her
face. "Unstrap me?" She wiggled against him. "We can take a walk...?" She
shifted again, nudging her hips back. "Explore..."

He smiled at her innuendos as he unstrapped her, fingers lingering on her
as he removed them. "Exploring is the best part," he said as he helped her
down. She was definitely someone he wanted to get to know better and only
hoped that she felt the same way.
