Description: Corran meets a new apprentice.
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 6, day 13 of Turn 7
On another visiting day, Rohagelen continued to explore
the Hold in hopes of being reunited with his party. He had a sneaking
suspicion the boys were going to make him find his way back to the Hall
when all was said and done. Sighing, he pushed the thought aside to
focus on the tapestries and things.
Corran was looking forward to his meal and the end of his shift. On
his way to the dining area, he saw a boy he didn't recognize walking
through the halls. A new fosterling, perhaps, or a lost apprentice. He
cleared his throat softly. "Can I help you?"
**Why does everyone keep asking me that?** Rohagelen turned and
this time saw a guard. **Well that's better than the Lord Holder**
"I don't think so. I was just looking... The Lord Holder said I could."
Corran smiled. "Of course you can look. Are you a new fosterling?"
"Oh no. I'm a new junior apprentice at the vintner hall. They brought
us over to visit." He didn't really focus on the fact that us had turned
to him in a manner of candlemarks. Maybe he could find a map...
"It's nice over there," Corran commented. "I can help you find your way
around, if you need. I know moving to a new place is difficult - I got lost
a fair bit, my first few months here."
Manly pride meant not admitting he was lost. "Ah no it's okay. I appreciate
it though. So you moved here...? Where did you come from?" That was good
information to have.
"I was at Amethyst Cliff before the earthquake," the guard said. "Moving
here was very different."
"Oh. I never got to go there either. Before now, just the cothold and the
Hold a few times for Gathers and stuff." He realized that made him sound
unworldly but that was why he was apprenticing. He wanted to see things and travel.
"Gathers are always fun. Hopefully you'll get to travel soon at some point - it's
an experience worth having, even if you return home afterwards. Gives you a
new perspective. Though I'm a homebody myself."
"When I've been there long enough to be assigned a journeyman I might get to
travel with him if he goes." That was hopeful and a reason for Rohagelen to figure
out which journeymen to be nice to. "How come you don't go anywhere?"
Corran shrugged. "My brother's got the travel bug, and because he's a rider he can
go anywhere he wants. I've always wanted to stay in one place, learn its rhythms,
know it like the back of my hand. Hard to do that if I'm always moving with the seasons."
"Hmm..before now I just stayed at the cothold. Da and Mom, too." In fact it had easily
been his whole life till now which made everything so strange and different.
"Then this must be an adventure."
"Kinda. Not everyday is great, though, but I'm gonna be the first vintner in the family so
I have to do okay." He put his little chest out proudly.
"You'll be great." Anybody with that confidence would do fine. He'd probably grow up
tall and a charmer, too.
"Well um...I'm going to go that way I think. Was nice to meet you." He realized he didn't
get the man's name.
