Description: Naton needs to check something important with Veerona.

It had been a careless comment made by someone he couldn't even remember,
but it had stuck to him like glue. It had made him consider things and
pushed him silently towards a decision he had unconsciously made oh so many
months before. But before he could act on it, there was something he needed
to know. So, as Naton found himself at Jylanya's lunch table with just
Veerona, he eyed the girl carefully. "Veerona? Can I ask you a serious
question?"

Her brows knit together in what she dubbed her serious look, but she was
really just wanting to get out of eating the rest of her fingeroots. She
didn't really like them all that much. "What?"

Naton smiled gently at the look on Vee's face. She was such a cute kid. "I
was wondering, are you okay with me being around so much?"

"What does that mean?" In her mind she didn't quite comprehend what he was
getting at. The most important thing in her world at the moment was food so
she didn't worry about much else.

Naton looked thoughtful for a moment. He really wanted to know how the girl
thought about it before he asked Jylanya. He knew Vee meant the world to
her and he wouldn't do anything to break that up. But if he told Veerona,
she'd surely tell Jylanya about his intentions, right?

"I know I have been here a lot and I was wondering if you are okay with
that or if it annoys you. I know you love Jylanya very much and I can
imagine it might feel to you like you are suddenly sharing her with me."

"I have friends and Lany needs friends. She likes you as a friend so that's
okay. Friends are good." A quite simplistic view but the young girl was
quite ignorant of romance and adult relationships. In her mind Lany having
friends was quite acceptable since it was something she did that she liked.

Naton nodded, completely satisfied with that answer. "I'm glad to hear
that," he said with a smile. "So what are you up to today?" Might be best
to change the subject quickly before she got suspicious. If he had to tell
Vee, he was pretty sure Jylanya would find out before he had the chance to
arrange things properly.

"Umm I have lessons and then maybe I can see Bel." She shrugged, not really
keeping track of much past her harper stuff. "Could play with Milga too."

"What are you doing with the Harpers these days?" Naton asked, showing
interest even though in the back of his mind he was thinking about entirely
different things. It was a good thing his Mastery project had brought him
into contact with some good Smiths. Hopefully he could pull in a favor
there...

"Still readin and learnin how to write words." She nodded matter-of-factly.
It was fun sometimes. She could write her own name and some other things.

"That's good! Can you write some new words already?"

"MMm some. Like home, sea, fish.." Of course those were easy. She had a
hard time remembering bigger words just yet.

"And your name, right?" Naton smiled.

"Of course. That was the first one I ever learned." Sometimes she wrote
little notes to Jylanya and Milga. It was good getting to practice.

"I bet, it's a long one too!" Naton said. Well, relatively long anyway.
Some of the girls these days had names...

"I guess so." She looked around and realized she had finished her food.
"Ummm...I'm going to go now 'kay? I have to go potty." With that
announcement, she got up and disappeared.

Naton smiled as the girl darted off and picked up their plates. She was a
good girl. And she had always seemed to like him too. She'd be okay with
his plans, right?
