Description: Liassa brings Yriadha some unpleasant news.
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 7, day 3 of Turn 7
Settling in her office, Yriadha poured a cup of steaming klah as she
looked down at her schedule for the afternoon. It was busy, as usual,
with only a scant amount of time allowed for the necessary paperwork.
There was inventory to go over, tithe trains to approve... She took a
sip and drew her braid over her shoulder as she flicked through work
reports. Her brow knit with displeasure at a list of work that had
been unfinished. Storage rooms left untidy, dishes not completely
cleaned. Her lips thinned.
"Ma'am?" Liassa asked as she knocked on the door. Her eyes darted
around, making sure nobody else could see, even though she had a
perfectly good reason to be seeing the Headwoman as one of her
workers.
"Come in." Yriadha looked up and then settled her hands on her desk.
"Liassa. Did you need something?"
"I, ah." Liassa pushed the door closed behind her and then folded her
hands together. "I have a problem."
The Headwoman frowned deeply and glanced back down at her hides before
looking back at the young woman. "So I hear. You've been slow about
completing tasks. May I ask why?"
"Everything about the smell of food makes me sick and I can't stand to
work in the kitchen. Could I have another duty?"
"The smell of food makes you ill?" Yriadha's lips pursed and she
leaned back in her chair, her eyes narrowing. "I see." Her gaze
flicked over the drudge as her eye twitched. "Are you with child?"
She looked down. "I think so." And they'd tried to be so careful about it,
too.
Yriadha's eyes narrowed further. "Who is the father, Liassa?" Her
voice was sharp and her jaw set, clearly displeased at the thought of
an unwed drudge in her employ had acted so rashly.
"Sethrul," Liassa said, naming one of the stable hands. "He sa-said he
wanted to get a cot."
"Well...that's certainly one way to do it, isn't it?" She glanced at
the girls abdomen and rose. "You'll marry him. Immediately. Should you
decide you don't want him, then you both can remove yourself from
employment."
The words stung, but it made sense to her. Sethrul didn't make fun of her
for her weight and he didn't hit women. She could have done worse. Liassa
bowed her head. "Yes, Headwoman."
"As it is, I am extremely disappointed in your behavior. While babes
should be treasured, your actions have cast a bit of a pall on you and
your Sethrul." Yriadha's eyes remained narrowed. "You will go fetch
Sethrul and bring him here. Then you will go visit a Healer
immediately. Do you understand?"
"Yes," Liassa said, backing sheepishly out the door.
"And I will be speaking to the Steward about Sethrul as well. I expect
you both back within ten minutes."
Liassa nodded and fled for the stables.
