Behind someones back

Writers: Emma, Paula
Date Posted: 2nd February 2006

Characters: Alrog, Fieayz
Description: Alrog and Fieayz have a little secret meeting.
Location: Smith Hall (NPC)
Date: month 10, day 3 of Turn 3
Notes: Follows "the Beginnigs of a Beautiful Relationship"

Alrog was waiting for the girl with a gold flit in little cul-de-sac created by the garden shed and Smit Hall's wall. He had sent a message for her with Lapis and this time the blue hadn't stolen anything. The young holder wasn't sure why he wanted to see her. Maybe to check she was all right. Then there were the little matter of finding a wife.

"Holder Alrog," she said rather formally. "I got your message."

"Thank you for coming. I hope this is not inconvinient for you," Alrog replied equally formally.

"No, no not at all," she gave him a smile. After all he was quite good looking, and rumour had it, single. She was sure that her father would approve, even if Daynar did not. "I didn't think I'd hear from you again."

"How could I leave without apologizing and not knowing if you're all right? Was Daynar very angry at you?" Alrog replied.

"It all seems to be forgotten now. I've made sure Arva knows to stay well away for the moment. But she wants to be so close to me at the moment."

"I'm sorry, it was all my fault and Lapis's fault too, the little thief."

"I'm sure he's well behaved most of the time," she said with a smile. It wasn't hard to hear the note of affection towards the pet that lay under the man's words.

"Most of the time yes, but when he doesn't behave, he does it when it harms me mostly," Alrog grinned a bit to take the bite out of his words. He loved Lapis but the flit sure knew how to stir trouble. "So, are you new at the smith hall? I don't remember seeing you before and I've visited the hall rather often."

"I am quite new," she said. "My Papa sent me here to be fostered. He's the Vintner Hallmaster."

Vintner hallmaster, that meant she probably had good upbringing and enough prestige to satisfy his mother's ambitions. "How did you get your gold? She's quite a beauty."

"She is indeed," Fieayz bristled with pride at the complement. "She came from the Weyr, my uncle, he's a brownrider there." Somehow she didn't think that saying her mother had dragged her off to River Bluff was such a good idea.

"You have a dragorider relatives? No one in my bloodline has ever been searched or impressed."

"My mother's brother," she said. "He's the only one so far as I know. We were... visiting," Fieayz decided that that was an adequate explanation, after all, it had just been a long visit to the Weyr, not a permanent home.
"Me, Mama and my sister, and my Uncle knew of a clutch of eggs."

"Wow. And I just brought Lapis's egg from traders."

"I didn't know Arva would find me, but she did," Fieayz smiled thinking back to the moment when she had realised that the little gold was looking to her.
"Best visit anywhere I ever made."

"I'm sure it was." Alrog liked her smile.

He really was quite cute, thought Fieayz. And his own hold. Papa would approve no doubt. Daynar, well he could go to the red star and back if he tried to interfere. "But this place could be pretty good too."

"It is a good place. Of course, it's my home, so I'm not very impartial. I never been anywhere else, well, except few gather visits," Alrog said, and wondered if it made him sound dull. But when you became a holder so young he had, you didn't have time for travel.

"Maybe one day I could see your home," she said.

"You're welcome to Iron Lake hold anytime."

"Maybe one day soon I will visit," she was sure that Daynar would allow that, perhaps if Otrina came too. There couldn't be anything improper that way.

"I have sisters about your age. If you say you're going to visit them..." Alrog suggested and let his voice die off. He suddenly felt like wretched cheat. Here he was trying to court a young woman, while his heart's desire was someone else.

"Then maybe one day Otrina and I could visit her."

"I'll be waiting for that day," Alrog said gallantly.

"I'll persuade her to come with me."

Alrog nodded. He was running out of what to say to her. "I better leave before someone catches us."

"Then I'll say goodbye, but only for now."

"Goodbye, Fieayz," Alrog replied with corteus bow.
