It almost seemed to happen faster than usual, the waking up and
realizing they had done it! They had won her again!
He took his his time with it, though, knowing - fearing - that she'd
run straight back to her weyrmate as soon as she, too, awoke.
He took his time, raising up slowly on one elbow, mentally thanking
Aerrath and congratulating his beloved brown. He took in her so
familiar face, though he didn't reach out to touch her. He didn't
want to wake her up faster than she would normally wake.
Dim memories, foggy by the flight, surfaced with brief glimpses of how
well they fit together and how well he had remembered what she liked
and what she enjoyed, though admittedly with much less control than
usual.
He just took in the sight of her, disheveled and sated. He refused to
speak, but he would remember this moment for a long time.
Ciara came through the fog slowly and her arm lifted so she could
brush the hair out of her face before she even thought about opening
her eyes. A soft smile curved her lips as she felt the sleepy
satisfaction of Elianith. "Hey," she said as her eyes opened and she
saw R'yin.
"Hi Beautiful." He smiled down at her. He felt the contentment of
Aerrath as they woke up together and he traced a finger along her
cheek before he could stop himself. "I'm so glad Aerrath won her.
Some things are always as amazing as they were the first time...."
His smile slid into a grin, though he made no move to untangle himself
from her. He would never believe she would stay with him, but he
wanted it to be hard to leave.
"A fine flight, Ciara. Thank you, lovely." He did lean down now to
kiss her cheek gently.
She smiled although her eyes were wary. "Elianith is very happy with her
choice," she said softly.
"As she should be. Aerrath has caught her more than once, and always
flown her well. And you? Are you happy with the choice?" He was
somewhat amazed she was still lying there with him. Was she, in
fact, going to stay? Could she possibly still care for him a little,
even though she was very happy with K'sedel and had given him another
child?
Her eyes gave a slow blink and she took a deep breath. She was fairly
certain he was getting all stirred up and there was still all that
flight lust flying around the room but she knew she had to be careful
with him. She gently extricated her legs from the tangle with his and
patted his cheek with a smile as she sat up and swung her feet off the
bed. "Of course," she said. "Now where are my clothes?"
He couldn't hide the sadness and hint of bitter regret that ran across
his face, but he helped her get free of their tangled bodies.
He pulled his knees up to his chest and sat up, watching her with softened eyes.
"They are in a nice not so neat pile by the wall there..." His voice
was still deep with lust. "Are you sure I can't talk you into
staying, Ciara? It was a beautiful flight. Now would be .. even
better..." He smiled slowly, shaking his brown curls. His eyes and
face were as serious as she had ever seen them.
"I don't think I'll ever stop missing you, though I know you're very
happy with K'sedel." He confessed, untangling himself at last from
the blankets and starting to stand. Maybe he could keep working on
her.
She smiled and shook her head slightly. "I care about you R'yin. You
know I do. But as a friend." She tossed her tunic over her head and
pulled on her trousers. "But that is all." She knew if she gave him
the least bit of hope he'd be following her around like a lost puppy
for months. "Thank you for the lovely flight," she added. "But I
really do need to go."
"Yes, back to your weyrmate. You should go." He let out a soft sigh.
What was different about K'sedel that she had agreed to be his
weyrmate, but she had turned him down, even with a daughter between
them?
"I know your feelings, my dear. But I could not resist the asking."
He dressed too, flinching a little when the feeling of clothes
reminded him he still had some residual flight lust to work out with
.. someone. It clearly wasn't going to be Ciara.
He moved closer to her though, and did stoop to kiss her cheek.
"It _was_ a lovely flight." His smile returned, the slow, easy smile
she would remember. Some things never changed.
"Yes, it was," she agreed. While she wasn't in love with him any more
they'd always been good together in the furs and he didn't disappoint
now. She moved around him and toward the door. Clearly she needed a
bath and to find K'sedel. She wanted to go home.
"Thanks," she said and scooted out the door.
