Arippa or Faldrimme

Arippa

The hold was bigger than she had expected, though not nearly as big as
any of the major ones. Still, it wasn't the dinky little backwater
place some people had whispered about at Dolphin Cove. That was good.
Qorri deserved more than some tiny hold in the middle of nowhere.
Elleth arched over and landed in a field far enough away that the
runners merely nickered and eyed them with suspicion. She dismounted
and patted the gleaming hide, quite sure that they would attract
attention soon enough.

Qorri had expected her so the food and everything else was taken care of.
It would be good to see Meledei and get news. Besides, the goldrider was
almost like her own and she wanted to see she was doing well. It helped to
know that. Heading out to meet her, she didn't think about bothering Arippa
or anyone since it was Meledei-her Meledei.

Mischief wouldn't let the arrival of a gold dragon go unnoticed so he
popped into the room where Arippa was working on some hides and
chittered at her .

~~Big big gold gold~~ The pictures came fast and furious. Arippa was
on her feet in a moment and running through the halls toward the front
of the house. She knew the gold and knew they were from Dolphin Cove.

"Qorri," she called as she descended the stairs.

Qorri by that point had already made it out of hearing and was hurrying
out to greet the goldrider. As soon as she came into view, Meledei's
face split into a big grin. She waved then hurried forward to meet the
woman halfway, jumping up to embrace her as soon as she was in reach.

Hugging the young rider for quite some time, she felt better already. Qorri
finally let go and stepped back to make sure that Meledei had been taking
care of herself. That not-eating nonsense was stupid. "Missed you. It's good
to
see you looking good though."

"Don't worry, I stuff my face every day." Meledei's face cracked into
a grin. That was one of the advantages of dragonrider life - they
pretty much worked off everything they ate. "I missed you too. How
are you doing?"

"Hello," said Arippa as she descended the steps of the hold. "Welcome
to Green Valley," she smiled. She could tell the two of them knew each
other well and the young goldrider was about her own age. "I'm
Arippa," she added holding out her hand.

Qorri didn't answer Meledei's question just then, stepping back so the Lady
could speak with her instead, as was proper. Rank had its proprieties and
all. Behind her smile, though, she was itching to ask so many more
questions.

"I'm Meledei, Elleth's rider." Meledei jabbed a thumb back toward the
dragon in question. The gold swung her head around to eye Arippa with
an orb of whirling green. "A pleasure to meet you."

"A great pleasure to meet you too," Arippa smiled. She turned and
dropped an appropriate curtsey to the gold dragon. "She is very
beautiful," Arippa added. "Do you think she'd mind if I went closer?
I've never seen a gold so close."

"Oh sure, she won't mind. She' likes attention." Most dragons did,
and Elleth just loved company. Unlike some of her kin, the old
enjoyed the company of even the firelizards and it wouldn't be unusual
to find a flock lined up all along her while she bathed in the sun.

"She's very beautiful," Arippa said and made a perfect curtsey as she
was taught by her Aunt Yanley in her classes. Then she walked toward
the gold and her little flit popped out of the air to circle her head
and scold her. "Enough Mischief," she said swiping at the little blue.
"She's a visitor and deserves to be greeted properly. Welcome to Green
Valley," smiled Arippa.

"Elleth likes firelizards if he wants to hang out with her." Elleth
craned her neck and settled her head upon the grass next to the
holder's wife, then crooned softly - both to the human and to the
firelizard. Meledei grinned - attention hog.

Mischief refocused his attention on the gold, landing on his person and
crooning his heart out. "Silly flit," Arippa shook her head and looked
back at Meledei. "I don't think I could get him away now." She turned
back to the goldrider and her headwoman. "I'm sorry to interrupt your
reunion but I did have to pay my respects. Perhaps you'll both take
tea with me later?"

Qorri nodded. "No worries, Lady. I think Meledei and I would be glad to.
We've just got some things to talk about." She was also thinking maybe
the young rider had also brought her a few things. A few bulges in the
harness bags hadn't escaped her attention. A rare smile on Qorri's face
proved that she did feel connected to the girl and missed her greatly.

"Alright then," Arippa smiled. "I will see you later," she turned and
lifting her skirts trotted back up the steps and into the Hold.

"Come on Qorri, I want the grand tour of your new home." Then afterward,
they would sit down and just catch up. It was times like that Meledei was
particularly glad she as a dragonrider, for when loved ones moved far away,
it wasn't as difficult to visit.
