Yriadha

This time when Bryvin returned to Sunstone he came on the back of a
Bronze Dragon and wore Lord Holder's knots in Sunstone's colors. The
rider treated him with respect and Fymer was on the back of a blue,
fitting for the harper.

He dismounted to a warm welcome and wore a pleased grin and thanked
everyone around him. Walking up the steps he turned and gave a short
speech to the small crowd of Holders.

"... And I hope that I can provide a place for you to prosper here at
Sunstone and honor Lord Morin's memory."

He waved and smiled at the cheers and then turned to go back into the
hold. Spotting Yriadha near the front door he said, "Come with me,"
and headed toward the Lord Holder's office.

Yriadha stiffened as he climbed off of the bronze. It was as she had
thought it would be. Bryvin had been chosen. As he gave his speech,
her eyes narrowed with calculation. He was not Morin; Morin had aided
her and gained her loyalty. Bryvin...she was familiar with him of
course, but as an equal more or less.

As he approached, her chin lifted, her gaze never wavering. She
greeted him with a curtsey and inclined her head. "Yes, my Lord." It
came out smoothly, without any hesitation, and she followed him.

He led the way and when he got into the office instead of going to the
large desk he stood by the wide windows.

"Yriadha," he said once he heard the door close. "You are a very
skilled and valuable asset to this Hold. How can we help it stay that
way?"

She watched him and clasping her hands in front of her stepped away
from the door. "My loyalty was to Morin." She was blunt. "I want to
keep my position, of course, but it begs the question as to why I
should be as loyal to you...my Lord."

"As was mine," he nodded in agreement. "And I think you know the
answer to your question. We have mutual interests and of course I can
provide incentives if need be." Sunstone wasn't rich... yet, but they
had prospects. "Please accept this small token," he said as a gold
necklace with a pendant fell from his hand to dangle from his fingers.

Fine brows rose at the offering and Yriadha stepped forward to take
the necklace delicately from his hand. She examined it, her eyes
filling with pleasure at the weight of it. Real gold. Her eyes lifted
to his and her lips curled upwards. "It's a lovely bit of incentive."
She inclined her head. "Thank you." She fingered the chain and took
another step forward. "And is there anything I might offer you?"

He smiled slightly at her obvious pleasure in the small gift. "I
believe we can come to a mutually satisfactory arrangement. There are
many ways you can help me and I am prepared to be generous. I want
your loyalty and discretion."

Her lips curled upward even more. "So you wish to be satisfied, my
Lord?" Morin had never looked upon her with any interest, but perhaps
if she played it correctly, not only would she get these lovely little
baubles, but there could be more for the offering. She had no
illusions about marriage; she was not of the Blood and was past child
bearing years. But, she still had a pleasant body and her own
experience that might entice the man to taking advantage of it. "If
you are to be generous with your favors, perhaps I should be generous
with mine."

He smiled down at her for a moment. "I see you are as perceptive as
I'd hoped. Are you as skilled?"

"Extremely so." She stepped right in front of him. "Shall I
demonstrate?" She knelt slowly, looking up at him as she fastened the
necklace around her neck.

"Please do," he said.

---

Yriadha lay face down on the desk, panting as she tried to catch her
breath. Tension had been released and she felt utterly limp and
completely satisfied. Bryvin had shown his own brand of experience and
it had been a release that she had needed for Turns. This was
certainly a mutually satisfactory arrangement.

For Bryvin's part he smiled. This had been an added gloss to his
personal victory at the conclave. She was indeed skilled and not
unresponsive. He pulled away and politely pulled her skirt back down
before hiding himself once again in his light robes. "Excellent Madam
Headwoman," he said as he rounded the other side of the heavy desk.

"Indeed." She pushed herself up, and smoothed skirts as she faced
Bryvin. She patted her hair into place, but there was no hiding the
satisfaction in her face. "I think we will work together quite well."

"Indeed we shall," he said with much the same satisfaction. "Can you
have my things moved from my quarters into Lord Mor... Into my new
quarters please? Oh and we'll have to arrange a banquet for next week
and invite all the local gentry."

She nodded in all formality, but the glow on her face never faded. "I
will have both done immediately, my Lord. It will be the finest
banquet this Hold has ever seen."

"Thank you Yriadha," he said with more than one meaning.
