"Don't try to change my mind, Kenza," U'kaiah muttered in his irritation as he stripped his riding helmet off. He knew exactly why his wingthird had pulled him aside, and he would have none of it. "G'nili is grounded until he can learn that drills are serious business and not to be taken lightly."
"Don't you snap at me, young man," Kenza retorted, crossing her arms and standing directly in his path. "You were too hard on him and you know it, and picking a fight with me is certainly not going to make it better."
"I'm not picking a fight with you," U'kaiah said with exaggerated sweetness.
"There is no reason to fight with you. Because I am _telling_ you. He is grounded."
"Fine." Kenza quirked an eyebrow. "Now maybe you'd consider _telling_ me what you think that will accomplish."
Shards, did she have to question his _every_ move? "He was fooling around out there! You saw it as well as I did!"
"So you're going to ground him so he misses _more_ drills and gets behind?"
Kenza replied, her voice even as she stared at U'kaiah. She understood that things had been hard for him lately, but he was overreacting more and more as the days went by. Whatever was bothering him wasn't getting better.
"Maybe he will finally understand that I will not tolerate his playing around in my wing!" He threw his helmet down in frustration. "And it is _my_ wing, Kenza! Not yours!"
Kenza watched he helmet roll across the ground in silence. Then she looked up at U'kaiah. "Is there something else going on that I need to know about?"
"Of course, I finally stand up to you and you think there has to be something _wrong_ with me," U'kaiah said with a sarcastic laugh. "Listen Kenza, just 'cause you were around when I was in diapers doesn't mean you can treat me like I'm still in them!"
"U'kaiah, you stand up to me _all the time_." Kenza resisted the urge to shake him. "What is going on with you?"
"I don't know, Kenza, you seem to know me better than I know myself. Why don't you just tell me?" he asked sarcastically. Her persistence was becoming highly annoying. "What's going on with me? Please go ahead and tell me. I'm interested, really."
"Fine," Kenza replied, bracing her hands on her hips so that she wouldn't slap him. "You're currently throwing the sort of tantrum I haven't seen since you _were_ in diapers. As for why, well, I don't have a clue."
"Well, maybe the reason is because I have made my decision and I don't know why my wing_third_ thinks she has the right to question my authority to make that decision instead of supporting me!"
Her fingers dug into her hips as she reminded herself that it would be unseemly to shake sense into the Wingleader outside where other people could see. "I have not only the _right_ but the _responsibility_ to do my best for you and your wing, U'kaiah. I'm not questioning your authority. I'm worried about you."
"I will worry about me and I will worry about my wing. You just get your paper work in on time and worry about your own children and I will take care of myself. I don't need, and I certainly don't want your concern or your pity, greenrider. This meeting is over." He shot his wingthird one more angry look before picking up his helmet off the ground and stomping off to where Kalamath waited to take him home.
Kenza stared after him, frozen in the same position for what seemed like endless moments. }: Why don't you move? :{ Solith asked, sounding entirely too amused.
Watching U'kaiah swing up onto Kalamath through narrowed eyes, Kenza snorted. **Because if I unclench my hands, I might strangle someone.**
