Description: The Weyrleader visits and provides the needed help
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 7, day 1 of Turn 7
Notes: Follows Taking the News; Mentioned: Zathris, K'reyel
It wasn't long after Z'man and Maaloth had brought the news that K'sedel had
organised for K'reyel to lead the wing drills so that he himself could go to
Sunstone and see what, if anything they could do for them after the untimely
passing of the Lord.
Nikornath came out from /between/ and called a greeting to Maaloth, who had
already returned to the hold, allowing his rider time to fetch Bryvin.
Bryvin had come from the main hold when he was told the Weyrleader
himself was coming to speak with him. He waited on the square and
watched the magnificent bronze land.
"Well met my Lord Weyrleader," he called with a short bow. "Thank you
for coming to Sunstone."
"The pleasure is mine," K'sedel said as he shed his heavy riding jacket, and
removed Nikornath's straps. "I only wish I had come under better
circumstances."
"As do we all sir," Bryvin answered. He also sketched a short bow to
the bronze before he swept his hand toward the main hold. "Can I offer
you something to eat or drink while we talk?"
"A cool drink would be welcome," came the polite reply.
"Very well, I'm sure we have that," Bryvin smiled and led the way.
Moments later they were in the Stewards office and drinks were on
their way. His office wasn't ornate but the furniture was well made
and well cared for. The Hold was prosperous but Bryvin's dealings were
normally with lower ranking persons than the Weyrleader.
Instead of sitting behind his desk he took one of the comfortable
chairs in front of it. "We've begun to compile the documents needed
for the Conclave and they will be copied for each of the ones
attending."
"I see, will you need them taken to the various holds? I can certainly
organise that for you if it will make things easier," offered the Weyrleader
as he took a seat.
"Yes sir," he nodded. "I'd like all the southern Lord's informed
before the news gets into the drum network. If you think thats
possible."
"I'm sure I can find some trustworthy riders to carry the news ahead of the
drums," K'sedel assured him. "If you can have your staff draw up the
notices, I'll take them back with me."
Bryvin nodded. "They're already working on it. I expect the copies to
be ready for you in the next half candlemark."
"Good," K'sedel said. "Have you found a venue yet for the conclave?"
"Yes," Bryvin said. "Lord Zathris will be hosting at Amber HIlls at
the end of the month."
"Well as soon as you know your transport needs, make sure that they are sent
to us, and we'll make sure that riders are available, so long as there is no
fall that day."
They spoke of many things over the course of the next half candlemark
but most of them trivial. Then one of his understewards arrived with
his arms full of the leather packets of documents.
"Thank you Redlic," Bryvin nodded at the younger man. He followed him
to the small table and helped to stack the documents. "Can you bring a
bag to put these in please."
"Yes sir," the man bowed to the Weyrleader and left the room.
Bryvin looked quickly through each of the packets to make sure they
were complete and as soon as Redlic returned began stacking them into
the bag. He checked off each of the Lords on his list and once his
double check was done brought the bag to set in front of K'sedel.
"There we are sir," he said with a sad smile.
"I only wish that this was better news," K'sedel said as he took the bag.
"But I'lll make sure that sweep riders take the ones for our territory, and
that the rest are taken by capable messengers.
"Thank you," Bryvin said as he followed the bronzerider out of the
hold. "Thank you so very much."
