He was pleased that Demir had accepted the invitation to dinner. It
would be nice to catch up with the young man once again.
"Pyunn, is everything ready?" Royan asked, as Lysun and Darfel darted
away from the dining area of their quarters as they chased each other
with pretend swords.
Royan shook his head but couldn't hide the grin. Their rooms were
always bustling with something happening. Tis the way it was with such
a diverse family.
"Oh yes, Royan, all is ready. Faldrimme and Wilbera have been a great
help,"Pyunn replied.
"And where are my girls?" He asked, glancing around the now empty dining room.
Pyunn smiled, "They will be here. They are changing into more suitable
gowns for guests." She knew Royan was hoping to present both girls as
possible suitors for the young Holder. He was _always_ hoping to
present the girls to men he deemed worthy. Sooner or later both girls
would find the right one for them. Of that she was certain.
Just then a knock sounded on the door. She went to greet their guest.
"Good evening," she said as she opened the door and stood to the side
to allow entry.
"Good evening ma'am," Demir smiled as he stepped over the threshold.
"Thank you for your hospitality." He looked past her to where Royan
stood and nodded his greeting.
Royan moved forward, offering his hand. "Ah, Demir. I'm so glad you
accepted the offer to dine with us this eve. We've much to catch up
on."
Even as he spoke Pyunn slipped off to the side to gather the children.
In a matter of moments the room was full of chatter and laughter as
Royan's family joined them. The elder boys, Kerel and Fiser nodded a
greeting to Demir. The younger two hardly seemed to notice the guest
as they bumped at each other playfully. Then came Wilbera and
Faldrimme. The younger nodded shyly, but hardly made eye contact with
Demir.
Faldrimme looked at him straight on before greeting him. "Nice to see
you again Demir."
Demir grinned as the gaggle of children came in. He remembered similar
scenes from his own youth when he and Kobias were the ones punching
each other in the arm and pulling MIrdella's hair. He smiled and
nodded at the pretty young woman. "And you," his eyes twinkled.
"Faldrimme isn't it?" then his eyes traveled to the younger and much
more shy sister. He threw a questioning look at their mother.
Pyunn caught the glance, but wasn't about to elaborate on the family
details at the moment. If Royan chose to, it was up to him. She often
received such glances from people who couldn't imagine how she was the
mother to such a brood. In truth she'd only birthed the youngest two.
She also looked young for her age as well.
Faldrimme remembered him apparently better than he remembered her.
She'd met him at the wedding and she knew he was a beastcrafter by
trade like her father.
"Yes, Faldrimme. We met briefly before," she didn't elaborate as the
chaos from the wedding was best forgotten. She was just glad that her
aunt had been rescued and was on the way to recovery.
"Come," Royan declared. "Everyone take your seat. Demir you can sit
here beside me." He gestured to the chair. "Faldrimme," he got his
daughter's attention. "Why don't you and Wilbera sit here." He
gestured to the two seats on the other side of the table directly
across from Demir.
Faldrimme did everything she could not to roll her eyes at her father.
She _knew_ what he was up to. It wasn't that she didn't _want_ to find
someone to love her, but ever since Arippa had married, he'd been
pushing harder and harder to find a match for Faldrimme.
"Yes, father," Faldrimme replied. She nudged Wilbera who also replied,
"Yes father."
Soon everyone was seated and Pyunn gestured to the drudges who brought
forth their meals. She may have prepared much of the food herself, but
one of the perks of being part of this family was having help whenever
one wanted it.
The food was brought and they were soon eating and chatting Demir felt
as comfortable in Royan's home as he would have in his own. He smiled
across the table at the two young woman and he froze for a split
second before his fork finally made it to his mouth
"Do I remember correctly? You have a twin right Faldrimme?"
She looked up when he addressed her and smiled kindle. "Yes, I do.
Arippa. She lives near Emerald Falls now, at Green Valley Hold,"
Faldrimme replied.
His eyes shifted to Royan as he realized what his friend an mentor was
doing. Faldrimme was the perfect age and lovely as spring. Wilbera had
the promise to be as pretty as her sister but she was still young and
shy. "So what do you like to do Wilbera," he asked in an attempt to
draw her out a little.
Wilbera looked up at him with a shy smile. "I like to sew," she
replied, then ducked her head a bit.
Faldrimme leaned down and whispered in her ear, "You should tell him
about the sewing projects we've been doing." She grinned at her
sister.
Wilbera looked up shocked and then laughed at Faldrimme before looking
towards the rather handsome man across the table.
Demir smiled at the interaction between the sisters. "You know my
sister likes to sew," he nodded is if it were a very great
accomplishment. Of course he'd heard the comment but acted as though
he hadn't. "So what kind of things do you sew," he asked and winked at
Faldrimme.
"Well, normally just clothes and things," Wilbera replied. She paused,
but Faldrimme nudged her to continue. After looking to her sister and
blushing a bit she added, "but Faldrimme and I decided it would be fun
to try our hand at some costumes." Wilbera's eyes were alight with
amusement as she finally stated, "we made a two person runnerbeast
costume. One person is the head and the other...." she looked around
to see most of the table watching her. Wilbera's voice dropped, "and
well, the other is, you know, the _other_ end." She couldn't hide the
smile.
Faldrimme, too, was grinning as she picked up her fork to sample some
of the mashed tubers.
"Oh," he said after a moment and trying to hide the smile that
threatened asked. "and which end are you?"
Wilbera blushed and ducked her a head a bit. "We tried both, though
Faldrimme said she was too tall for the back and it made it look
funny." She giggled a bit as she glanced at her sister.
Faldrimme, meanwhile was grinning wickedly herself. She so much
enjoyed the time she and Wilbera had spent on the costume. Growing up,
she'd spent time with her, but she and Arippa had often been together
more. It was nice to spend more time with Wilbera now. It had drawn
the two of them much closer.
The older sisters eyes were so full of merriment though it wasn't at
all mean but full of love for her sister. Demir found himself really
looking at her for the first time. Then he turned to look at his old
mentor and shook his head. Somehow, Royan had always know what he'd
like and what he needed when they'd worked together.
"I think I'm going to need to talk to you," he said to the girls father.
Royan couldn't hide the smirk on his face as he watched the goings-on
between the three. With Demir's words, he all but raised a fist in the
air in triumph. Restraining himself, however, he nodded.
"As soon as the meal is concluded, we could take a short walk to the
outer gardens to talk," Royan informed his younger counterpart.
