Changing The Specs

Date Posted: 16th August 2014

Characters: Famell, Irabel
Description: Famell and Irabel discuss her upcoming mission and make changes.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 8, day 6 of Turn 7

"Master Famell." Irabel greeted him warmly after he called her to
enter his office, a smile offered at the same time as a piece of
parchment. "I brought the final draft of the proposition along with
what I'll need in terms of man power, equipment and supplies." Irabel
wouldn't get to leave for another sevenday, but at least she was that
much closer. "And a list of those who have expressed interest in
going."

"Ah, yes," Famell said reaching for the parchment. They'd been
discussing the plans for some time, and now it seemed all was in
order. "Sit, and let's go over things a bit shall we?" He gestured to
the seat, but didn't look up from the parchment his eyes were
scanning. Her planning showed thought and motivation. He had some new
news to share with her in regards to the plan, but first he wanted to
hear her thoughts.

"Things look in order here. So tell me, do you feel ready to take the
helm on this particular mission?" His eyes met hers as they lifted
from the parchment.

Did that mean he had doubts about her capabilities? Or was he merely
testing her? "To be honest, sir, I have no hesitation and feel
confidant in my abilities to lead this." In all honesty, it wasn't
that complicated of a mission. Weather and shore mapping were pretty
tame, all things considered. Well, unless a storm blew up, but Irabel
had been well trained for that as well.

"Excellent, I knew you could handle this. Now, it's my turn. I have a
bit of a proposition for you. We haven't completely explored that area
in some time and I know a ship went down there that was to have carried

various cargo. I'd like to add a bit to your mission and include some
additional support for you so that we could see about both ventures in
one go. What do you think? It will mean you'll be gone longer and have
many more people with you." He raised a brow as he asked her opinion.
It was_her_ mission and he wanted her to take charge. Though she

wouldn't go alone, or even be the highest rank on the trip, he was
giving her the chance to lead it all.

"That seems like a wise way to handle it. After all, sending a
separate mission would require more marks and more time wasted, so
best to kill to wherries with one stone." And salvage and rescue was
another of her two specialties - so hey, she was definitely going to
take the opportunity to get some experience there too. "I say let's
go for it."

"Excellent. I think you will need a larger team for sure. I suggest
you take everyone on your list here and," he reached for a writing
tool and added a few more names to the page. "a few others as well."
He slid the page back to Irabel before shuffling around on his desk
and drawing forth another parchment.

"Here's what we know of the shipwreck that occurred in that area. No
one has really traced it yet since it was so far from civilization and
the waters there are rather deep. I've been holding on to this record
for some time now so we could mount a good search. Whatever cargo and
supplies that we can salvage from here would help the Hall
tremendously in our trade."

The question was, had anything survived? "So there's enough cargo to
be worth such an expedition." Irabel didn't see the point in
attempting such a mission if there was little to salvage. Then again,
he was a Master and surely wouldn't send the for such a thing
otherwise. "Financially, it makes sense to combine these. I'm
willing and able if you wish to entrust this to me."

"From what I understand there were alot of craft supplies being
shipped from the North on board the vessel. Also, two of the passengers

were wealthy for Pern standards. Once the ship was lost it was hard to
track for some time, so a salvage was never attempted. However, on my
journey to the North we happened upon an outlying pod who remembered
something and upon investigation were able to track the ship around
the vicinity of where you were planning to go. I know you can handle
all this and salvage whatever is worth salvaging." Famell finished.

Irabel considered the information, the nodded. If anything, Famell
would reduce cost by combining that mission with the one she had
originally proposed. "All right sir. I'll do whatever you need me to
do, but that will drastically increase our need for personnel as well
as supplies and we'll likely need two boats, not just one."

"Not a problem. I'll see that you have whatever you need," Famell
replied. "Do you have a date in mind for when you'd like to set off?"

"Not for another month, especially with the new parameters. I want to
make sure we're completely prepared before we set off ona venture
like this one." She paused and calculated a few things quickly, then
added, "I'm thinking the last sevenday of next month. That will give
us plenty of time and will be in a better window weather wise."

"Alright then. Keep me informed of your progress and whatever else you
may need," Famell responded. He waited to see if there was anything
else she wished to discuss.
