Relea generally left her door unlocked since she couldn't hear people
when they knocked. It was highly unusual, however, for her to discover
someone waiting on the other side when she herself opened it. The step
that had been started was suddenly halted and she skipped back in her
surprise. The face was recently familiar and after the initial shock
wore off, a smile spread over her lips and she signed 'hello'. It was a
simple enough sign that most of the time people who had no idea of her
language still understood its meaning.
"Good afternoon Relea," Qorri smiled back, hoping the woman would understand
she had good intentions. "I've come to make sure you have the things you
need. Can't have the Holder's sister-in-law living in squalor, you know?" Of
course, she was also assessing Relea herself. Was she healing? She waited
patiently
to be let inside.
Squalor? Relea stepped to the sound and motioned for Qorri to enter if
she desired. Once the Headwoman was inside, the door was closed behind
her and Relea took up her stylus. "I'm quite comfortable, thank you."
Walking inside, Qorri looked the place over. She wasn't one to coddle
exactly
or encourage laziness so her visit wasn't about providing Relea with every
comfort.
On the other hand, she knew what it felt like to suffer and how small things
could
satisfy. So she set about, plumping the pillows, adding a few, and taking
stock.
"Do you not grow any plants inside?"
Relea shook her head. She hadn't thought about plants. Leaton had
never liked them and her parents hadn't kept them either so they were
always absent from her rooms. Though, now that the Headwoman mentioned
it, the idea seemed to sit well with her. Maybe she'd asked Coran about it.
"Hmm well maybe we can find some empty pots. And a tapestry to hang.
That wall over there is quite bare. I know you just married and moved in so
you haven't had the time to make it your own yet probably." Qorri tried
to make it sound like a fun game. "We could find some things you like?"
"That would be lovely, thank you." Relea etched out those words, then
erased them to add, "Let me ask Coran what he would like." She didn't
want to start redecorating if he wasn't keen on the idea.
Maybe it would give Relea something to take her mind off of her problems.
Women liked settling in and arranging things. It gave them a sense of home
and ownership. "Suit yourself. Just let me know whenever you're ready."
Moving about the rooms, she finished her perusal, several ideas already in
her head. "Coran could use a nice chair and a writing desk. Does he write
often?" She turned back to Relea, waiting to see her response.
"Often enough." Sometimes he brought home records because the infirmary
had been too busy to update them there. Relea had thought about a desk,
but didn't have enough marks to buy a new one and she hated the idea of
asking Coran for it. "I don't have marks for one, though."
"We've got a few in storage. Better here than sitting there collecting dust.
Just a coat of shine and it'll be fine." Qorri would ask Arippa before she
brought
it all out, but she didn't think the Lady would care. She turned and saw
her drudge at the door, holding a tray of warm milk with flavoring with some
sweetrolls. "Thank you, set it there. Relea, please have some. They're
fresh."
Refreshments too. Although she appreciated the gesture, Relea couldn't
help but wonder why the Headwoman was so intent on such special
treatment. Was it because Coran was the holder's brother and she his
wife? Or was there some other reason? "Thank you." She wrote upon the
stylus, then erased and etched out, "Perhaps we can look tomorrow?" She
could ask Coran about what he wanted to do by that point.
"That would be fine. After midday meal perhaps?" Qorri knew also that she
was staying in her rooms and figured this would be a good way to get her
out of them, at least for a little while. If Relea had more female
companions, she
could go about the hold without problems.
"All right, we can do that." If she was with the Headwoman, surely no
one would bother her. The last thing Relea wanted was another
altercation where Coran was hurt. "I look forward to it."
