She felt like she truly _was_ carrying an egg in her stomach.
Everything about her was awkward and slow these days. She was tired of
waiting and wished for something to happen, yet totally petrified of
the idea of it actually _happening_.

Gelira shifted in her seat. Her feet were propped up as she'd been
instructed, but it still didn't make sitting through the class any
easier. Today seemed worse than usual. She felt more tired, more achy,
yet also as though she needed to get up and _do_ something. All this
waiting and sitting and doing nothing seemed to be getting to her.

The _need_ to see to the necessary was once again upon her. Sighing,
Gelira looked over to Genna and gave her a look that clearly said,
**Again.** It had almost become a running joke to see how many times
Gelira would need to make the walk to the little privy during each
class.

She shifted her feet off the stool in front of her to the ground,
grimacing a bit with an uncomfortable feeling in her back. Then trying
to push herself up from the chair, she felt something trickle down her
leg.

Eyes opening wide, Gelira felt heat rush to her cheeks. She hadn't
_made_ it to the privy. **Oh how embarrassing,** she hoped no one
noticed, though her eyes darted to Genna and the few others sitting
near here.

Scooting as quickly as she could out of the seats she tried to hurry
before any _more_ leaked out, but it was too late. Unlike her usual
privy trips which seemed like they were just a tiny trickle, she found
her pants completely soaked.

Gelira wished the floor would open up and swallow her right then and
there. She was so utterly embarrassed at the thought that she'd wet
herself in front of her peers she never even stopped to consider that
it just might be something else.

Ninaine frowned immediately, not failing to notice the sudden wet in
Gelira's pants. A suspicion started in her mind, fed by memories of helping
other pregnant women in the Hold; it was made concrete by the sudden low
thrumming noise in the back of Luneth's throat. She'd never heard her little
green make that noise, but she knew full well what it mean. **Luneth?** She
rose slowly out of her chair.

}: Charayoth's is about to lay her egg. :{ Luneth peered at Gelira with
interest, instincts kicking in far ahead of any possessive surge the
dragonet may have had regarding her lifemate. }: Charayoth, can we
watch her lay it? :{

Genna looked up curiously when she, too, heard Lissath's very first hum
emerge. Looking from Lissath to Gelira a small smile formed on her
face when she noticed the wet spot and made the same conclusion
Ninaine had. "Gelira? Are you okay?"

The brown weyrling looked at the other weyrling with concern. "I think we
need a healer. Do you want me to get one, or can we help you there?"

}:Your egg is coming!:{ Charayoth declared happily, bouncing up from
her spot, her hum joining those of the others. }:We want to watch. I
want to be there when it hatches.:{

Gelira was so surprised by the words of Charayoth and the hums from
the others as well as her own bodies actions, that she was almost
frozen in place for a few moments.

Finally, at her fellow weyrlings concerned questions, she answered. "I
think I'm having the baby." Looking towards L'ger, she responded,
"Maybe a healer would be a good idea." She didn't want to take any
chances and make the walk to the infirmary on her own. In fact, she'd
been so worried about her classes and Z'an, and other things that she
hadn't really considered what to do when the moment actually arrived.
Now, it was here and she wished for someone to guide her. She wished
mostly to not be alone.

"You could be candlemarks yet." Ninaine spoke slightly over the humming
dragons. Having spent enough time around birthing women at the hold, she'd
seen the signs before. "There's no rush." She approached and oddly Luneth
was too busy humming to mind. "But one of us can walk with you, if you
like."

"Well, I'm going to run on ahead so they know we're coming." L'ger was well
aware of what a birthing entailed, and was also aware that she might not
want to be seen like that by too many people.

"Shall Ninaine and I accompany you to the infirmary as L'ger runs up
ahead?" Genna suggested softly, placing one hand on Gelira's shoulder
comfortingly. Giving birth, she had no idea how scary that must be.
Nor was she very keen on finding that out for herself anytime soon.

T'lat came up next to the others a little bit shy about the process
but Gelira had always been very nice to him. "I could help you get to
the healers. My ma always said that walking is good to help the
process along."

Taren received the word and started to prepare infirmary for birthing.
He called in the midwife in duty. His specialty was surgery, not
delivering. When he got involved in birth, it was usually when his
surgical skills were needed to cut the baby out. He hoped that
wouldn't be needed this time. Gelira's birth was special case, so he
would be present even if he wasn't doing much.

"Yes, yes, I'd like that. All of it," Gelira replied to all of them.
The one thing she didn't want at this time was to be alone, so having
all her fellow weyrling candidates around was _exactly_ what she
needed. As she waddled forward she could feel the liquid oozing out
between her legs. It was embarrassing, but there was nothing she could
do about it. She allowed her weyrling friends to hold her arms to
steady her and give her the support she needed.

}:Charayoth, send Buddy to Daddy, he will want to know,:{ Gelira told
her green who was happily trying to follow them. }:You can wait
outside the infirmary when we get there,:{

The walk was slow and uncomfortable for Gelira, but thankfully it
wasn't as bad as it could have been. She started to feel her
contractions now. It was still just a dull ache in her lower back, but
every so often it got a little worse and nearly caused her to trip.
Thankfully her friends kept her safe until they finally arrived at the
infirmary.

As the class emptied out, J'darin shook his head and laughed. As with most
Hatchings, even human ones, they come at usually inconvenient times.

Today they would have gone on to do their First Flights as dragon and rider,
but the entire class had vanished and he knew that he would never get them
back and focusing. First Flights were not all the dangerous, but you
never knew if a weyrling would not be physically ready or a dragonette would
strain a wing.

But a couple of days to wait on First flights to welcome a new baby would be
fine, and it would give them all a chance to bond with their lifemates over
a _happy_ event.

He much preferred happy interruptions to sad ones, and did not follow the
class to the Infirmary.

She was in good hands and would be in good hands once she got there, but he

would check on her later.

In the meantime, he could find his weyrmate...maybe one day a class would be

interrupted for _him_ to have a baby, or at least Devyn.

Oddnil, the midwife, had arrived just before Gelira came in. "So, your time
has come?" she asked with kind tone.

"It has," Gelira replied, feeling joy, nervousness, and sadness all at
the same time. The baby was coming. There were so many thoughts and
emotions running through her head she couldn't even begin to sort them
out.
