Description: Rayan summons Rohagelen for a brief chat.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 9, day 23 of Turn 7

Rayan leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms in front of his chest as
he waited for his young guest to arrive. He'd made it his point to talk to
as much of his crafters in the first few days on the job as possible.
Masters, journeymen, apprentices, staff, everyone deserved a chance to be
heard and he wanted to hear everyone's perspective, before he made any
decisions on the course he was going to take in his leadership. So he'd
picked a few of each group and scheduled some time for them. Right now he
was waiting for Rohagelen, one of the junior apprentices. He'd sent a
passing Staffer to fetch him.
Scared to think the new Hallmaster had called him to his office, Rohagelen
had made sure his clothing and knots were just so. Gulping, he headed down
the hall and finally came to a stop in front of the right door. Wondering
what the man was like he found himself thinking about Keayd and Corofel. He
could be friends with Corofel and he was an Heir and all. So maybe the
Master wouldn't be too bad despite his rank. Breathing again, he knocked.
"Come in, the door is open!" Rayan called out from behind his desk.
Opening the door, he peeked around it at first. Seeing the master, he
straightened and came in the rest of the way. Despite himself, he was young
and he knew this. The likes of him had no business with the Hallmaster.
Still curiosity won out and he approached, standing in front of the desk.
"Sir. Junior apprentice Rohagelen at your service." He sketched a short bow
and came up, waiting.
"Rohagelen, welcome," Rayan smiled. "Have a seat. Before you start to
worry, you're not in trouble. I'm just getting to know my people from a
Hallmaster's perspective."
That was a relief. He sat down and looked around, then focused again on the
older man wondering if he looked anything like a proper vintner really
beyond the knots. "Ohh...okay." **Did he really mean to know all the
apprentices? That was impossible!** Still he was curious. "Oh...okay then."
"Would you like some juice?" the Master asked with a friendly smile as he
poured himself a glass. "How many turns do you have now, Rohagelen?"
He nodded and took the juice then answered easily. "Just reached thirteen
turns, Master."
"And you've been with us for..." he dug his memory for the information, but
he wasn't exactly sure.
"I only came in month 4 so not very long." He shook his head. It seemed
like a lifetime ago that he had left his home and come here. So much had
happened. Life was finally settling down at least.
"And how's the Hall been living up to your expectations?" Rayan asked
curiously, leaning forward in his chair a bit while sipping from his own
juice.
"Umm well I've been learning some neat stuff." He sincerely hoped the
Master didn't know about what had happened to him before. Chaysea was gone
so she couldn't tell him. Keayd wouldn't, would he? A little bead of sweat
broke out on his forehead before he thought about what else to say. "I like
the Hold nearby and certainly the food is good." A boy his turns only cared
about a few things.
"That is good to hear," Rayan smiled. "What have you found the most
interesting subject so far?"
"I'm not so much for growing the grapes. I rather like the flavoring and
everything that goes into the winemaking process. The actual mashing,
filtering, pouring, and sealing is what interests me." He knew the rest of
it was important for sure but that, to him, was the part that defined
vintnering.
"Everyone has their favourite subjects," Rayan nodded. "As long as you
don't forget about the less interesting stuff, that's perfectly alright.
What about your teachers and the lessons, any room for improvement?"
"Well old Grampis is a bit dry but he knows his stuff." Not one to
criticize his elders, the boy didn't offer up any more information. After
all, they were the journeymen and knew better than him. "I think, though,
when it's cold like this and we're not growing, it's harder since we only
focus on inside things. I look forward to springtime."
"I can imagine. So do I, lad," Rayan nodded. "When spring comes and the
world comes alive again, it's an exciting time for us." He paused for a
moment, thinking that over. "Do you get along with your fellow apprentices?"
For just a moment, his lips pursed and he was quiet. "Some of 'em are okay.
Some of 'em are jerks, but that's usually the way of things anywhere." His
answer was frank. Since his first few sevendays, though, they were inclined
to leave him alone, for which he was grateful. Then again, he had learned
not to be caught alone.
"You can't get along with everyone, that's true," Rayan nodded. "As long as
things don't get out of hand. Do you feel like you could talk to your
superiors if something goes wrong?"
"I talk to journeyman Keayd if I have questions. He listens." That was true
enough and indeed marked one of the few that the young man trusted so far
in his life.
"That is good to know," Rayan nodded seriously. "Well, unless you have
anything to add, I'll let you get back to your chores."
