Getting Permission for Story Lines
The most important thing to remember when planning a post that could affect more than just your persona is communication. While the Council is not interested in micromanaging anyone's personas, it is important to let people know when you are going to do something that might have an impact on their persona.
As with most things, this is a highly subjective rule. If you ever have any doubts as to if your post might affect a location as a whole or another persona in particular, the best thing to do is ask! An exhaustive list of every situation in which this is the best thing to do would be imposible, but here are some guidelines to follow. When in doubt, err on the side of caution.
Plotlines That Always Need L1 Approval
These plotlines require permission of the L1 and the notification other persona (ranking and non ranking) which they will effect. If a Weyrling is lost /between/, the L1's permission is needed, but it is also important to tell the Weyrlingmaster's writer. If one of the drudges is going to be murdered, it is important to let the Headwoman's writer know. If your rider is losing their dragon /between/, you should tell the Wingleader's writer.
- Killing a PC or NPC.
- Serious injury or illness that will inhibit a PC from doing their job for more than a few sevendays.
- Any jumps /between/ times.
- Dragons talking to non-riders. (HAD being the exception.)
- Impression from the Stands.
- Murder or other major crimes.
- Any plotline that will affect a large group of personas in the Weyr, be they PC or NPC.
- Any rider being physically assaulted by someone. (This is because the Weyrleader will always have to be directly involved when a dragon is put in danger. Distinction is made between a slap or punch and an actual fight.)
Plotlines For Which The L1 Should Be Notified
These plotlines require notification of the L1, but permission will be assumed unless the plotline conflicts directly with a major upcoming event that general membership is not aware of. As above, any other member whose personas are directly affected should also be given notification.
1. Promotion of a persona to a higher rank. (Apprentice to journeyman, etc...)
2. Major crafting projects. (A mural in a Weyr, new place settings for a Hold, a special type of wine, etc...)
3. Minor crimes that could be come an issue for leadership or major violation of rules that will result in punishment. (Vandalism, theft, violence between non-riders, romantic relationships between junior weyrlings.)
4. Equipment failure that requires extensive repairs and affect multiple people. (Electricity failing, wine press breaking down, major pipes bursting.)
5. Events which are open to all personas in an area. (Concerts, performances, dances.)
