Characters: Aletta, D'cal
Description: Aletta confronts D'cal about rumors she's heard.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 16 of Turn 3

Aletta was not happy. After drills she'd heard some weyrlings talking about her and Figol. The roumors where getting on her nerves. She spotted a weyrling and decided to ask him if he know who had started the rumors. "Bluerider?" she called, leanghting her stride to catch up. D'cal stopped dead in his tracks and looked around for who might be calling him. He didn't think he recognized that voice.

"Sorry to bother you, I'm Aletta and I was wondering if I could ask you a question."

"Of course," he said with a curious smile.

"I heard some weyrling talking, my name came up and I was wondering if you know who started the rumor."

"Your name is Aletta?" he asked thoughtfully, searching his brain for any rumors he had heard lately with a name similar to that. Come to think of it, he _had_ heard something about that name... "Aletta... the greenrider who has a thing for a boy still in harper classes?"

"Yeah, that Aletta. Only one in the Weyr that I know of." She replied.
"Do you have any idea where it started?"

"I don't know. But I would think even in a Weyr a dragonrider being so interested in a boy still learning his ballads would raise a few eyebrows." He looked at her with a slight bit of uncertainty. "I mean, isn't twelve turns a bit young for you?"

"Twevle? who said he was twelve? He's fourteen and theres nothing going on. Farsith likes music and he offered to play for her." Aletta was agast. Twevle?

"Fourteen? Why is he still in harper classes then?" D'cal asked, rather confused. Fourteen was much better, but could she seriously be interested in a kid who couldn't even graduate?

"He's not in classes, he is a harper. Well an apprentice. We ran into each other and Farsith mentioned that she liked music, he offer to play for her."

"Ah, I see. That makes more sense. And is _far_ less interesting,"
D'cal chuckled.

Aletta sighed. "I don't need this, he doesn't need this. If the hallmadter thinks he's neglecting his duties he'll get in trouble. "

"This is a weyr, greenrider. There are rumors about everyone and everything, and most of them are wrong." And a few are right. "It will blow over soon enough."

"I hope so, I don't want him to get into trouble because of Farsith and I. He's a nice guy."

"Just a nice guy?" D'cal asked curiously. "I'm getting the whole truth here, aren't I? TO debunk the rumors?"

"Just a nice _hallbred_ guy." she insisted.

"Well, I was Hold bred myself," he looked at her carefully. "But is he really _just_ a nice guy? You don't have any feelings at all for him?" She seemed rather upset about the rumors for to be nothing to it all.

"Don't tell him I said this, but I do like spending time with him. He's not like some other guys in the weyr. Mabye cause he's a haper, or I don't know. It's confussing."

D'cal smiled knowingly. "Relationships usually are, whether you're in the Weyr or not."

"You too hu?"

The weyrling shrugged. "I suppose we all have our troubles. Mine just happen to be double."

It was Aletta's turn to be cerious. "How so?"

"Well," it was only fair since she told him about hers... "There is Dyaera who I've known longer than almost everyone at the Weyr, and I care about her deeply. Very deeply. But all she wants from me, from anyone I suppose, is physicial pleasure. And I want to share that with her, but not if that's all she thinks I'm good for. I wasn't raised that way. And then there's Zanie, who is smart and beautiful and kind and I care about her too. But I think she might care about someone else more." He shrugged resignedly. "I guess either way I can't win."

"Dyaera? She was scored wasn't she?" Aletta had a feeling that her injuries had something to do with her actions.

"Yes," D'cal nodded. "But it started long before that. Before I even Impressed."

"I think reationships are doomed at this point. If I get involved with him, will he understand Farsith's flights?"

"Well, I can tell you from experience, they are not easy to just accept." As much as D'cal had tried, he couldn't help but feel jealous when J'tak won Dyaera's last flight. He didn't know what he would have done if J'darin had won it again. Then again, it didn't seem those two _needed_ a flight...

"That's what worries me, he's not a rider. He couldn't possibly understand how strong the bond truly is,"

He nodded. "It's something he will have to learn about life in the Weyrs."
