Description: Judassa finally tells I'lan she's pregnant, she just leaves out
a few "minor" details.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 9, day 1 of Turn 7
Notes: So this was just chillin' in our inboxes for half a month...
heeehhh...Our bad.
Judassa had planned her speech carefully and taken a few deep breaths.
She was ready to tell I'lan that she was pregnant. That was not the
hard part. The hard part was lying to him and telling him that he was
the father when she very well knew that he was not. Still, she
couldn't see what other choices she had. I'lan was nice, responsible,
and the sex wasn't bad either.
They had taken to spending most evenings in each others company so at
the usual time she left her weyr and headed to his. Tonight she wore
her blonde hair down, loose around her shoulders. Knocking on the door
to his weyr, she pushed it open and poked her head in.
"I'lan?"
The bronzerider's face brightened as he saw her. "I've been wondering if I'd
see you this evening, come in!" He motioned to her to come in and sit down.
Since he'd been seeing Judassa, his place was certainly more tidy, and
tonight it looked like he might have even made a little more of an effort
to make it presentable.
>From behind the couch emerged his canine with a woof. "Looks like Bubbly's
pleased to see you too."
Judassa smiled as Bubbly appeared and she gave his head a scratch,
"How was your day?" She asked I'lan.
"Good. Yours?" he asked as he reached for a covered pitcher of juice and
some glasses. "Want some?"
"It was good, and yes please." Judassa took her usual seat on I'lan's
couch and curled her feet beneath her, wondering how she was going to
broach the topic of her pregnancy. It wasn't just something one should
blurt out, but she couldn't think of a smooth segway into that
conversation either.
The glasses were part filled, then I'lan paused. "Want to make this a little
more interesting?" he asked. "I've got something from the Vintner Hall that
could give it a bit of a kick."
Judassa stared at the glass held in I'lan's hand and it was as if the
seconds dribbled slowly by, suspended. This was it, this was how she
could tell him. "Just the juice, please, I can't have anything more
than that.... I am pregnant."
"You're pregnant?" he said. "Pregnant?" The glasses were set down as a
smile spread across his face. "Are you sure, do we need to go to the
dolphins to make certain?"
He was....not mad? The smile on his face said that he wasn't going to
grab her by the arms and shake her the way the man at the Hold had...
the baby's real father. She recovered quickly enough to nod her head,
a small smile flicking across her lips, "I am certain." Oh, she was
very certain.
"It's a bit of a surprise," he said. He'd imagined that working with the
midwives they'd have told her about the tea female riders could use, which
meant he hadn't mentioned it to her. "Do you, d'you want to keep it?"
Judassa's head bobbed, causing her long hair to move in shimmery,
golden wave, "Yes, of course." Despite how desperate she was for no
one to know the child's true heritage, she couldn't quite bring
herself to be heartless enough to abort the unborn child.
"Then we'll work it out," he paused. "I'm going to be a Dad, you'll be the
best Mum ever, and Bubbly, we'll he'll look out for our little one."
Although she was relieved, Judassa could not help feeling a bit
cautious at how easy it had been.... Faranth she had gotten so
incredibly lucky to find a bronzerider like I'lan, she was sure that
it must be an oddity. Didn't dragonriders believed in just tossing
babies into the creche as soon as they were born?
"Looks like I was all nervous for nothing." She gave him a small smile.
"I always wanted to be a father," he returned the smile. "I just never
thought it would be so soon."
"Yes, me either." Judassa agreed. Now she would have someone to help
take care of her and be there with her during the birth of the child.
She could not imagine going through that alone. As a midwife's
assistant she saw a lot of horrible things at birthings, and the idea
of doing it herself was intimidating.
"Do you know when, when the baby will come?"
"Five months?" She said with a little raise of her shoulders and a
smile, "If everything goes well of course." She didn't need to say
that things would not "go well" and she would end up delivering the
baby "early." She was just lucky that the runt inside her was
apparently a small child since she should have been showing much more
than she was already- which she had kept expertly hidden with the
right clothing and with the excuse that Weyr food was richer and
hardier than what she had been use to at the Hold.
"Then we've got time to get used to this." I'lan came to sit next to her,
moving close enough to allow him to put an arm around her.
Judassa leaned into the bronzerider's side as she bent her knees and
curled her feet beneath her, "Yes, and... I am glad it is you, I'lan."
She looked up at him.
"We're going to need a bigger weyr," he said thinking aloud. "Me, Naath,
Bubbly, you and a baby."
An incredulous smile crossed her face, "We are?" They were all going
to live together? That certainly made her work much easier, she didn't
even have to try and manipulate him into living together.
"If this is really happeining, then, well we need to do it properly," he
explained. "It won't be fair to leave everything to you, plus," he paused
for a moment, his holder upbringing showing through, "I was going to ask you
to move in soon, to make this formal, I really enjoy having you here, my
life is... better for it."
Judassa's smile had never been more genuine, "Then it is settled then.
Let's celebrate!" She said slipping into I'lan's lap.
There was little else he could do. With a lap full of a warm, and pretty
girl, kissing her seemed like the only option, so he did.
