Description: Naevyn pays a quick visit to her friend E'rae.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 4 of Turn 7
Naevyn had never really been one to listen to her impulses, but as she
passed E'rae's weyr she decided to make an exception. It had been a while
since she'd had a chance to chat with her 'easy' friend and felt like it
was about time to check up on him. So she knocked on his door, waiting to
see if he was in.
The bluerider had just come back in from taking a walk with Werenn and his
demeanor was calm because of it. Even though she was a reminder of things
he had lost, she was also one of the reasons why he hadn't given up. Coming
to the doorway, he pulled the hide flap aside. "Oh hello." Not exactly a
huge conversationalist, he didn't know what else to say for a moment,
stepping aside to let her in if she wanted.
"I was just passing by," Naevyn said, a little shyly now. The idea that she
was helping E'rae to be social instead of herself strengthened her, though.
"Wondered if you'd appreciate a visit, since we both have a bit of time
off."
"Ah yeah sure. Not much going on, though I think that's a good thing."
Indeed, the shift to downtime versus everything-going-wrong was helping him
to cope and work out his issues. "And why don't you have things to do?" **A
young girl like her..she should have a lot of friends**
"I guess I like the quiet too," Naevyn smiled. "And I don't really have
much hobbies, it hasn't been long since I started actually having some free
time. You know what the first months in the Wings can be like."
"That's true. It's why people don't start crafting again until a long time
after, if they even do. When I first..well anyway, I've always gone off
when I could to go hunting. It helps me to relax and it's useful for the
Weyr. Hides and meat and such." He realized that might not have been the
best thing to say to a young woman but then remembered she was a rider and
had had to butcher meat for her dragonet like he had.
"Hunting," Naevyn seemed to think about that for a moment. "That does sound
relaxing, out and about with nothing else on your mind." She smiled a
little. "How do you hunt?"
"I can shoot a bow or there's always snares and traps. I've cut down a
wherry or two with a knife as well, but the bow is my preference. Of course
Leith is just as fond of catching wherries as I am." His dragon usually ate
them outright though.
"A bow," Naevyn sighed almost wistfully. "I'd love to be able to shoot a
bow. I've always thought it such an elegant weapon. My brothers were always
really good with it."
"Well now...do you mean a crossbow or a long bow?" Both were equally useful
but the crossbow was easier to fire. E'rae found himself warming to his
favorite subject and was much more relaxed. If he thought about it, it was
probably the first conversation he'd had with a female in a long time where
he was actually not overanalyzing the whole thing.
"My brothers used longbows, I haven't had much experience with a crossbow,"
Naevyn said, thinking back. "Which do you use?"
"Both, depending on the situation. Longbow is better for hunting when your
prey is far off. A crossbow is better when you're sneaking up on
something-usually small game or whersports where the bolt will bring it
down better than an arrow will." So she had seen weaponry handled before.
That was interesting since he didn't remember her being Weyrbred.
"Oh, that's so interesting," Naevyn said, a smile on her face as she leaned
forward in interest. That lasted only a second, though, as she suddenly
shot up straight with a start. "Oh no, I forgot I was supposed to meet with
K'deren. I have to go! I'm so sorry E'rae!"
A small look of amusement crossed his face and the bluerider nodded. "Have
fun with the Wingsecond then." He watched her go, remembering what it was
like to be younger and fresh.
