Description: It's a bad morning for X'ian and Camyth.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr, Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 12, day 20 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Kaitien
The Thread was scheduled to Fall in the morning over Emerald Falls'
territory. It meant early woke up for X'ian. He left his weyrmate,
Kaitien, to sleep, trying to be as quiet as he could when he prepared
himself and Camyth for the Fall. Quick breakfast at the dining cavern
and then the wing gathered to the Weyrbowl. After the briefing from
the Weyrleader, they took to the air. The wing /betweened/ to Emerald
Falls hold.
There were some clouds in the sky and they looked they might drop some
rain. Which would do good for the recently planted fields below. The
rising sun coloured the clouds with liquid gold and orange.
}: Pretty, :{ Camyth observed, looking at the colours in the sky.
** Very,** X'ian agreed. ** But pay attention to the Thread. There's
the leading edge,** the young healer cautioned him.
}: I always pay attention to it, :{ the blue replied with unshaken
confidence and turned his head to receive firestone.
X'ian tossed him the stone and felt the pre-flaming rumble start up
inside Camyth's second belly. Their position was near the tail end of
the wing-formation, so when the wing rose to met the leading edge,
they were last to start flaming.
It was all routine, but X'ian tried to avoid the trap of feeling
secure in that all too familiar routine. Thread would punish you from
the slightest mistake.
Being small blue, Camyth didn't have the strength of flying the whole
Fall. He was already starting to tire, when it happened. The cloud
cover broke up to let through a bright rays of sunshine. They were
facing the sun rise so it hit directly to the eyes of both dragon and
rider. They were blinded. "Crackdust!" X'ian swore and pushed his
goggles to the forehead to rub his eyes. All he could see was bright
spots. **Camyth…** he was about to order his dragon to /between/ back
to Weyr. But he never finished his thought. There was searing pain and
then... the eternal darkness. Neither had seen the silvery clump of
Thread and Camyth, his forward facing facets blinded, had flyed
directly into it.
}: Camyth and his are gone,:{ Loseth keened softly, though most of his
attention was on fighting Thread. True mourning would come later.
**Crackdust!** The pair was young. N'vanik hated losing anyone but the
loss of young dragons and riders hit harder. He called in an older
blue to take X'ian's place. There was a little more than half a Fall
left to fly and the Wing had to stay focused.
