Characters: J'ackt, L'pin
Description: L'pin oversees J'ackt's first /between/.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 6 of Turn 7
It was a nice day for flying. L'pin was sitting under Chaneth's
outstretched wing, leaning against the blue's warm hide as he waited
for J'ackt to arrive. He wouldn't let this weyrling down.
Zith, now nearly full sized landed in the bowl and rumbled a greeting
at Chaneth as he approached. There was excitement in his proud
bearing, and the bronze's eyes whirled with anticipation. J'ackt slid
off of Zith during a brief pause in the dragon's step, landing in a
brief crouch before righting himself. He strode forward, his helmet
tucked under his arm and stopped a bit away from L'pin. "We're ready."
}:Today you will learn to go many places.:{ Chaneth said to the
bronze. He always enjoyed these lessons, even if his rider was
nervous.
"Zith's looking very well!" L'pin called, standing up from his resting
position. "You must be proud."
Now darkly tanned from his month of digging and his hair bleached
paler from the sun, J'ackt approached L'pin with a slight smile and a
roll of his shoulders. "Sure. He reminds me every day how well he
looks." He remembered himself and then shrugged a bit. "Thanks,
though." More than relieved to be away from the tedium of digging, he
was less stand offish than usual.
}: Good. Watching mine work was boring. I want to fly. :{ The bronze
stretched his wings and then promptly snapped them over his back,
impatient to get started.
"You've been doing the practice visualizations of the Star Stones,
right?" L'pin was repeating himself because of nerves.
"Yeah." J'ackt nodded as Zith rumbled his agreement. They had
practiced until it seemed that both of their minds had the image
burned into them. Zith had even practiced while J'ackt was digging and
had watched his clutchmates /between/ with indignation and envy. He
had then spurred J'ackt to hurry on with the digging, becoming a
constant nag in his mind.
"In that case, we'll fly down towards the Dolphin Hall, then come back
via /between/ to the Star Stones."
L'pin rolled his shoulders and stretched before climbing up onto his
blue's back. Once they were both aloft, he let Zith take the lead for
the straight flight. It was a nice day for the long part, at least.
Zith gladly took the lead, his great wings stretching out with
pleasure as he flew. It had been a long while since they had been
allowed a longer flight and Zith relished every moment. As they
arrived at the Hall, Zith flew in wide circles around it, his wings
adjusting with the drafts of hot and cold air.
L'pin used the time to try focusing on the pleasure of the wind and
distracting himself from his nerves. But soon they were there, and it
was time for the real business.
}:Pass us your visual of the stones,:{ Chaneth told Zith.
The visual that passed to Chaneth from Zith was sharp and crystal
clear. The big bronze seemed without nerves and very confident of what
he was about to do and what was visible of J'ackt's face from beneath
his helmet appeared determined, only a slight tension showing in the
set of his shoulders. }: We are ready when you are. :{ Zith's winged
around Chaneth, dipping lower in response to a shift in the air
current.
}:Perfect.:{ Chaneth told his rider.
**Tell him it's time to go,** L'pin replied. He concentrated on his
image for Chaneth, so the blue didn't follow Zith's.
}:Let's go on one, two, three..:{ Chaneth counted. He /betweened/.
Three long heartbeats later, they were out above Dolphin Cove, L'pin
holding his breath to see if the bronze was joining them.
Zith appeared momentarily right behind Chaneth, his wings wide. Under
his helmet, J'ackt's smile was triumphant. **Perfect. Now, did you get
the visual for Dragonsfall? We can go see Saibra.**
}: I did. :{ Zith agreed easily, but his mind voice firmed. }: But we
are not going. :{
J'ackt was trying to keep a straight face while he mentally expressed
his displeasure. **Shaffit, Zith, we can go where we like now. We
don't have to...**
}: No. :{ The bronze was firm. }: I do not want to wait while you dig
or clean cess pits or what ever else might happen if we do not behave
correctly. You can not go /between/ without me and I will not go until
Loranth, Panitath or Loseth's says we can. I want to lead, not follow.
:{
**Shaffit, Zith! Just for a few minutes! Get your bronze head out of
your sphincter!** J'ackt wanted to pound on the side of his leg in
frustration, but also didn't want to give L'pin an idea of what he had
wanted to do.
}: No. :{ The bronze was firm, even as his rider silently railed at
him for a bit of freedom. Instead, he turned his attention back to
Chaneth. ): We are ready to go back. :{
}:Good job,:{ the blue approved.
