Description: J'nus and Kapera get ready to go to the Harper Hall for Turnover.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 29 of Turn 7
A masked ball sounded like the most marvelous thing Kapera could think of, and she'd been daydreaming about it for days. Now she was putting the finishing touches on her outfit. The dress departed some from her usual style. It was a dark wine red and closely fitted at the chest and flared out from the hips, and the fabric floated around most appealingly when she spun and twirled. Her mask was of the same fabric and had been quickly embroidered with a shiny copper-y thread thanks to a helpful Weaver.
Riyanth shifted on the ledge. }:Will there be other bronzes there?:{ the gold asked. She wanted all of the attention.
**I'm sure there will be plenty,** the goldrider soothed.
She frowned as she tried to put her hair up. The braid kept slipping off of her head and she stuck herself and yelped.
"You all right? Hello?" J'nus had hurried into Kapera's weyr when he heard her cry out, only to find the goldrider scowling at her mirror. Again. "Sorry to walk in. I'd heard..."
"Me stabbing myself like a witless teen?" she asked, turning to look up at him. Half her hair was still flowing loose, the other half's braid. "I can't decide what to do."
This again. J'nus smiled, oddly touched by the sight of her. She'd been nervous like this before the Hatching at Dragonsfall, too. "Leave it down. I think you're pretty with your hair down. You could always bring a clip to tie it back when you want to dance."
"And having it down adds to the disguise I suppose?" It was a good idea. She smiled at him. "It'll be magical to dress up for a bit."
The bronzerider wasn't as sure, but he wasn't going to spoil her enthusiasm, either. "Well, you're off to a great start. You look stunning." His own outfit was much plainer; a Trader's style tunic in a dark green with soft black pants and leather shoes. The shoes were a concession to the Hold; if it were the Weyr, he'd wear sandals.
"Sometimes I like to imagine the fancy Hold life of dresses and dancing that my family wanted - " Words slipped out before she could stop, so she redirected it. "It's nice to just pretend for a bit. We'll be masked, we can be anyone for this night."
"Who will you be?" he asked.
"Besides pretty and glamorous? I don't know yet."
"Well, I'll look forward to meeting whomever you are tonight," J'nus replied seriously. "In the mean time, may I offer my pockets to put a hair clip in, if you don't want to bring a bag?"
"That would be quite marvelous," she said with a smile.
"The consider it done," the bronzerider said, sweeping a rather over-the-top bow just to make her smile. The young goldrider made him feel young sometimes too-- young and foolish. He wasn't sure that he liked it. "We should hurry and go, though. If my math is correct, the festivities will begin soon. Unless you'd prefer to arrive fashionably late?"
"No, I think I'd like to be early for once. I don't want to miss the dancing. Think we're going to knock the socks off of the Holders and Hallfolk?"
"If they're wearing socks, I'm confident that they'll be barefoot by midnight."
"That's quite a challenge to put on, but I'll take it. We'll be exhausted well before morning. I intend to tire us both out."
**Oof.** It was going to be a long night, then. J'nus would have preferred to make an appearance and go back to the Weyr shortly after the old Turn ended and the new Turn began, but if Kapera wanted to stay out... the young goldrider was hard to say 'no' to. And if he didn't stay, then she'd probably end up celebrating into the morning with someone else, someone younger and better able to keep up with her. So J'nus smiled. "I think I can manage. It's a good way to start the Turn."
She stepped over and kissed him on the cheek. "I can't think of a better person to start it off with. Let's go."
