K'deren

She was tired when they finally arrived back at the Weyr. It had been
a long two days for the Turns' End celebrations at Emerald Falls. Not
that she hadn't enjoyed herself, she most certainly had but all the
events they'd had to attend as Weyrleaders had just worn her out.

She greeted Donneth with a smile and a scratch before she stripped her
luggage and Panitath's straps. She slipped the straps on their peg and
then headed inside.

Hauling her bag into the main living area she set it by the door to
handle tomorrow. "K'deren?" she said when she saw the room was lit
this late at night, but she didn't see him right away.

"Here," he called as he emerged from the bedroom. "Just settling Kendran."

"Thank you," she smiled crossing to him. She knew their little guy
could sometimes be a little fussy at this time of night.

"Well?" K'deren asked, trying to meet her eyes.

She met his eyes and nodded. Whether that would be enough for him or
if he'd need more descriptions was up to him. She didn't hide her
actions and she'd shared her thought process. N'vanik was good for the
Weyr. So, she'd done what she could to ensure his continued
leadership. "Are you alright?" That was her major concern. She'd asked
a lot of him and she knew it. "I love you," she said after a moment of
silence.

"I love you too," he said. And it wasn't a formula reply, he meant it, he
did. But it hurt a little to think of her actions with another man, even if
he knew why she'd done it. A flight was one thing, he'd been a rider long
enough to realise that you had to just let the dragons take over and go with
them, or else you could see a real tragedy take place. "It was as you
expected?"

"Yes," she nodded hating that this seemed a little awkward. But then
if any man knew her well it was this man who loved her so fiercely.
She couldn't deny him anything and she knew it. Not even just what he
wanted to know. He knew her body intimately and could quite literally
imagine what had happened and how she'd reacted. For Cyradis was a
passionate lover and K'deren fit her perfectly. It was sweet and
passionate and her whole heart went into it when they made love. But
she wasn't going to lie and he would know that too. "How much do you
want to know?"

"I don't need the details," K'deren said after a moment. His imagination had
already supplied that much for him. Even though he knew it was about giving
N'vanik and Loseth the edge over D'hol... Still the thought of the woman
who had his heart doing what she needed to with another outside of a flight,
that fell into the category of 'it happened'. "Just, do you think it will be
enough, for Panitath?"

"I think so," she said with an 'almost' smile. This was the hardest
part, she thought as she took a step closer. Though she respect her
goldrider mentor and the advice she'd given with regards to a
situation think this, Sorenne had said there could be a cost, a very
dear cost. But for the good of the Weyr and the good of Pern you did
your duty.

With K'deren's family she knew they were all very aware of the
personal costs of successful Weyrleadership. If anyone could
understand, he could, or at least she hoped he would. With N'vanik
there was the added safety of his relationship with Talrayne. There
was no danger of forming any romantic ties on either side and thus
complicating things further. "I think it was enough." She didn't add
the unspoken 'for now.' But that was all they needed since Panitath
was close to her time.

"Then, then that's all I need to know."

She visibly relaxed at his words. She hadn't even realized the tension
in her shoulders or the amount of relief would flood through her at
his acceptance. She took the last step and put her arms around his
waist gently laying her head against his chest. She said it again. "I
love you."

His arms went around her, pulling her closer. "Love you too, you and our
family." Family, that at least was theirs alone. All their children, the
joys they brought them, the way a cute saying could make them smile. And
that was something N'vanik couldn't and wouldn't share with them.
