It was exactly as people had described it would be. One minute she was
muttering under her breath at bashing her shin over the corner of her
trunk and the next she was bracing herself against the wall as a
dizzying rush spiraled through her body. Desire lit a fuse in the pit
of her stomach as she lurched out of her weyr to see Ashareth
scrambling from her weyrcouch.
The young green's body glowed brightly, making Ashareth's mint green
hide seem even lighter against the glare of the sun. Dropping down
into the feeding pens Ashareth snatched up a buck. She'd already fed
the day before but a little fresh blood would give her the added fuel
she would need for the mating flight.
Despite having grown up in the Weyr, and losing her virginity a long
time ago to J'ackt, Saidrene found herself a bit nervous as she made
her way quickly to the flight rooms. It wasn't the sex, necessarily,
that she was nervous about, it was the possibility of waking up beside
of someone that was... gross. Not every man in the Weyr was a prize.
}:I chase,:{ Mnoranth announced and R'enh took a deep breath before he
rose from his desk and started down the stairs toward the flight
rooms. It wasn't as if Mnoranth chased every green like the blues did
but there were some every month when the mood hit him. He had several
other riders brush past him in their hurry but he halted in mid stride
when he saw who was in the room "Saidrene," he breathed and started to
turn away. But there was no turning Mnoranth away from this chase so
instead he slid around the side of the room and gave her a friendly
nod. This could end up a bit awkward indeed.
N'vanik arrived a moment after his wingsecond. "Loseth would be happy
to save you from embarrassment," he said, nudging R'enh. The
Weyrleader's eyes lingered over Saidrene. Yes, she was Saibra's
daughter but the greenrider was coming into her own. And Loseth was
determined to have Ashareth.
The first bluerider to arrive was V'con. Outrageously dressed as usual, he
sidled into the flightroom, somewhat in awe of the company he found himself
in. Cacholetyth however, had no such doubts, as he hovered by the feeding
pens, eyes on the young green.
Other dragons might have ideas, but Leith had a plan. The blue was
experienced, wily, and handsome if he believed all the greens who had
told him so. Besides that, he understood green dragons and what they
wanted and he was prepared to give it to them. So, on this fine day,
he arrived to watch Ashareth just waiting for his chance to acquaint
himself with her young, lithe form.
Walking quietly into the flight room, E'rae didn't look at the others.
Rather, he took one look at her and saw that she was young. That
wasn't always a bad thing but he himself hadn't had the greatest luck
with young females. Still, this one was a rider so maybe she was
different. Knowing greenflights didn't last very long as
a rule, he took a breath and stood still, wondering idly how it would go.
Kedvencth watched the young green with open lust. She was pretty and
the young bronze admired her. N'mor slipped into the group among the
others. He didn't mind catching this one. He found Saidrene as
attractive as his dragon found hers.
Sh'dori didn't understand why Rahmuth was so eager to chase these
young weyrling greens. Still, as long as the green didn't belong to
any of his relatives, he was happy to indulge him.
Zith gave a deep bugle of intent as he joined the crowd around
Ashareth. He knew her well, and though he'd not caught a green yet, he
was learning. Perhaps this would be his opportunity. His rider had
caught and flown Ashareth's many times.
J'ackt entered the flightroom, breathing deeply with his own
excitement. His eyes found Saidrene and heated instantly. Though he
was in competition with more experienced riders, he didn't give much
thought to them as he found a place around his friend and sometimes
bedmate. Pushing his hair back from his brow, he waited, body coiled
in anticipation.
The presence of at least three bronzeriders in the room surprised
Saidrene, and pleased her at the same time. The part of Saidrene that
was with Ashareth was not surprised at all by the presence of the
bronze males.
}:Of course they would want to fly us.:{
N'vanik's presence made her stomach turn flips as she considered the
possibility of her long-time crush winning her first flight. Her eyes
flicked next to the man beside him, R'enh. She knew him well enough
because of his relationship to her mother. That one would be awkward.
J'ackt she knew, of course, and she smiled a little. The others
Saidrene only knew by name, such as the broody bluerider, E'rae and
the young bronzerider N'mor.
Before she could consider the other suitors, Saidrene was overtaken
with the feelings of Ashareth's intense rage as the young green hissed
at the males and then sprang into the air, darting up and away from
the Weyr.
Mnorath leaped into the air after her but not before a couple of blues
who were simply faster off the mark. R'enh smiled and nodded luck to
N'vanik before the bond with his bronze took over and he became the
wings and vanity that was Mnoranth.
Cacholetyth was one of the quick ones off the mark, calling to the green, a
wordless crooning, that unmistakably meant she should choose him above the
bronze dragons.
Kedvencth flexed his strong hind muscles and launched into the air. He
flew strong and steady. While he couldn't match the blues in speed and
agility, he could outlast them. He was young and strong, full of
confidence. He crooned his admiration to the lovely green.
Rahmuth wasn't that quick in taking to the air. But the brown know how
to catch greens and spending all his strength in the beginning of the
Chase was not how it was done. He found himself at the back of the
group of chasers, biding his time, searching for an opening. He was
patient.
One of the first in the pack, thanks to size and speed, Leith eagerly
ate up the distance between himself and the green ahead. She was a
pretty thing. He gave one loud bugle that rang clear through the
skies, calling to her. Barrel rolling to his right to catch a thermal,
he soared higher, able to outfly some of the larger dragons easily.
}:I don't have to last since she will tire before me. I just have to
catch her eye and keep it.:{ he said to himself, squaring his
shoulders and stretching his wings against the updraft.
Zith eagerly rushed after the flying green with youthful exuberance.
He adored his clutchmate even when she was not this beautiful glowing
creature, but now, she was pure enticement. While he may not have been
as experienced as some of his chaser's his riders shooting desire made
him strain just as hard to catch her.
With a green this young, it was likely to be a short chase so Loseth
used more speed than he would have with a wily older green. His
normally amiable nature fell away as he chased after Ashareth,
growling with possessive lust.
Mnoranth stayed above the pack knowing the green would go higher still
before she wasted her energy and was snagged. Massive wings could keep
him in the air much longer than she would remain there. His croon was
added to the chorus as he kept to a straight course rather than follow
her whips and turns. Perhaps he would be in the right place at the
right time.
Ashareth had no strategy for this flight other than to simply _fly_.
At breakneck speed she zigged and zagged, swerving this way and that
before flattening her wings against her body and dropping like a stone
through the air. At the last moment she would unfurl her wings,
snapping them into place as they caught the air and slowed her
descent. Turning her tail, Ashareth would tilt her wings and ride a
thermal back up. There was no thought to conserving this energy, and
soon the young green found strength flagging.
Catching the shift in her energy, Leith knew it was almost time and he moved
in-trying to jockey for position and favor. His hide was beautiful
enough-would
that catch her eye? Or maybe his wingspan? The blue was eager to end this
Flight and sate the mating urge that was eating up his body.
Tonuth knew he couldn't catch the green dart weaving all over the sky
like she was so he stayed a steady course above her and when he saw
her coming back up on the thermal he thought his position was perfect
and then the shadow of larger wings brushed past him.
Mnoranth crooned as he dove to meet her rise. She was very pretty and
he wanted her. He bellowed at the younger bronze as he swept past.
Cacholetyth knew he could do this. He kept up his crooning to her, hoping,
needing to catch her and show her exactly how a flight could be. Putting on
a burst of speed he began to jockey for position, even as his crooning
became a call of 'choose me!'
}:Be mine, Ashareth!:{ Loseth called, flying as fast as his wings
could carry him. There was a kind of joy in trying his speed, eating
up the sky and burning through his energy.
Kevencth chased her with the eagerness and energy of the young. }:
Choose me, you beautiful thing, I fly you well, :{ the young bronze
appealed to Ashareth. He positioned himself so that the sun glittered
on his metallic hide.
Rahmuth kept more leisurely pace. There was no sense tiring himself
out because young and unpredictable green. He crooned his own
admiration to her and concentraited to placing himself well for a
possible catch. At this rate, she would tire herself quickly and
Rahmuth would be there, all ready and full of strength to show her
what pleasure was.
Zith flew doggedly in pursuit, his low croons throbbing through the
air. }: Come with me, my beauty, my friend, my mate. :{ He followed
her erratic movements with his eyes and saw her strength waning. }: I
will catch you... :{
The males were gaining on her rapidly, and Ashareth knew with
certainty that soon they would overtake her. She would either have to
make a choice or risk being caught by just any of the males. Swerving
away from Leith, who she noticed with sudden alarm had come very close
to her with his cunning flying, Ashareth felt Rahmuth's wingtip brush
hers and in startled surprise she backwinged sharply, and collided
with a solid, bronze body behind her.
Rahmuth came so close! He even touched her wing before she backwinged and
ended up entwined with bronze barely out of weyrlinghood. Trumpeting his
disappointment, the brown turned back home.
Kedvencth saw his change was gone and dropped altitude. He took his losing
with calm acceptance. His turn would come. There were plenty of greens to
chase.
Choice made for him, blue Caocholetyth headed back to the Weyr, letting
loose a bellow of disgust, before dealing with it. His rider meanwhile found
willing arms to help him cope.
As Zith wrapped his wings around the green and twined his neck with her, J'ackt
lunged forward out of the semi-circle. He caught Saidrene up in a ready
embrace, sealing her lips to hers. He had caught her and that was all he
cared about.
