Imarith wouldn't wake up.

Alina stared at her dragon in despair. The green's hide gleamed like emeralds, much brighter than it usually did. She wouldn't wake. And Saidrene's green Ashareth had risen to mate the day before.

It was happening. Bile rose in her throat. Alina put a hand out to steady herself against the wall of her dragon's wallow. **Not now, shells-- not
now!** She could barely hear herself think over the pounding of her heart. She wasn't ready. She didn't want anyone to touch her like that. This wasn't
a good time-- she had drills to go to. And now, no way to tell the Wing that she couldn't attend.

Of course they'd know why she was absent soon enough. The greenrider closed her eyes and swallowed thickly. **Don't throw up.** That would make what was going to happen next even more terrible than it was going to be. Imarith would wake and take to the skies to mate, and she... she was going to be taken along for the ride. Whether or not she wanted to.

Deep breath. **This is going to happen.** Briefly Alina regretted not finding someone - anyone - to sleep with first. But then she discarded that thought. A choice made out of fear and desperation was no choice at all. And she had to face the facts: there was no happy ending for her. There would be no happy home, no falling in love, no marriage or stable life. She was a dragonrider now and she would bear the consequences. Briefly she hated the sleeping Imarith for putting her in this position. If Imarith hadn't chosen her, none of this would have happened. No mating flights, no flame and Thread, no sad, lonely life and early death.

But then she wouldn't have Imarith.

Deep breath. Alina opened her eyes and tried to let go of her anger. It wasn't Imarith's fault. Mating flights were in a dragon's nature, and she could no more change that then she could the seasons. The only fault was her own. She shouldn't have agreed to Stand.

Breathe. It was too late for regret.

She straightened her spine, gathered what dignity she could, and on shaking knees began the long walk down to the flight cots. This was going to happen
whether she wanted it to or not. Her choice was how she approached her fate: scared and weeping, or with her head held high no matter how unpleasant it might be. Alina chose the latter, and as she entered the flight cots, Imarith awoke.

"No!" J'ackt cursed volubly as Zith declared his intention to chase his clutchmate. Unable to go /between/ to avoid it, J'ackt had been silently hoping that Zith wouldn't show interest when it was time for the green to rise. He should have known better. Throwing down the hide he was working on, J'ackt took a moment to kick at a chair. This was not something he wanted to take part in. He knew...he just _knew_ that Alina hadn't gotten herself ready. That she was going into this entirely unprepared.

He ran his hand down his face as he dragged his feet towards the flightrooms. Of all the flights...He entered and saw Alina, but there was no smile on his face. He locked down his worry and it was replaced with a grim sort of acceptance. He took his place across from her and exhaled, saying nothing.

Not long after, the tall bluerider sauntered in. E'rae didn't know the weyrling personally but he was always more attentive when he saw a younger rider in the mating cots. Running his hand through his hair, he saw the young bronzerider nearby and the look on his face. He didn't seem very happy. Knowing whatever this little drama was likely didn't include him, he picked a spot along the wall, getting comfortable. Thankfully a weyrling green's first flight usually wasn't very long. He gave Alina a small nod.

On the other side of the bond, Leith was more than excited to give chase. He didn't mind one bit that she was an untested weyrling green-the better for him to introduce her to the glories of mating. She should become acquainted with a proper blue, after all. Blues and greens were made for each other-built for speed and agility to catch each other. Biding his time, his eyes whirled faster as he tracked her progress, waiting for his moment to shoot off after her.

T'riv groaned. **Really? Do you have to?**

Drith gave a draconic rumble of laughter and joined the other males waiting for the green to take flight. **I guess you do.** The young brownrider sighed and trudged to join the rest of the men. It wasn't that he had anything against sex, he was just so awkward around girls that the thought of dealing with the aftermath of a flight was enough to make him blush.

Kedvencth arrived to the place and dispatched his rider. The young bronze immediately proceeded to try to impress the green in question. N'mor made amused snort at his dragon's posings. She wasn't familiar to N'mor or his dragon, but it didn't matter. It had been while since they've last won. If N'mor remembered correctly, it had been a Flight with male greenrider. The memory still made him cringe. N'mor walked over to see who was it this time. He was relieved to find out the rider was female and around his age. Weyrling, according to her knots. He gave her an encouraging smile. At the age of eighteen, N'mor was still one of the Weyr's youngest bronzeriders, despite being a dragonrider for three Turns now.

Unexpectedly, the next man to come into the room was far older than the others already ringing the young woman. While Yumath normally preferred to chase golds, he did on occasion eye a pretty young green and decide to participate. D'hol looked at the young woman, brow quirking slightly as he took a place in the rough semi-circle forming.

The young woman in question glared back. The lust rolling off her dragon was palpable and overwhelming, and she hated it. Hated the way those men circled her like she was a piece of meat, hated feeling like a lost ovine surrounded by wild felines. She closed her eyes as Imarith roared her - their - intentions, a mix of aggression and desire. Alina did her best to pull back her own emotions and let Imarith take the lead, and then gave up entirely and dove as deeply as she could into her dragon's mind, leaving her body far behind.

Imarith stretched on her ledge and surveyed the dragons that had come her way. Bronze, brown and blue, and all so fine! She flexed her wings, and then leaped into the sky. }:Follow me!:{

L'cor made it into the room just as the green rose with Tonuth right in the middle of the pack following her. He knew who she was, of course. But he didn't actually know her at all. He sidled up to the rest of the riders surrounding her and then merged with his dragon.

Sliding into the room, S'avn barely even gave the greenrider a glance as water dripped from his still wet hair and darkened on his pale blue shirt. There was nothing quite like taking the time to enjoy a nice hot bath only to have your dragon decide to chase a green in the middle of it!

Xemroth joined the chasers. }:I follow, beautiful one!:{ Z'ku didn't know who Alina was, aside from being newly graduated, and he was a bit surprised by Xemroth's interest. He hadn't paid much attention to Imarith before now, and the bronze didn't chase as often as most bronzes seemed to. But sometimes Xemroth took a sudden interest, and this was one of those occasions.

**At least it's not a male rider,** he thought as his mind merged with his dragon's.

**Oh Faranth, oh Faranth, oh Faranth** T'riv thought as Drith joined the others in the sky. When the brown dragon went, his rider had no choice but to follow. Figuratively of course. Reluctantly he closed his eyes and tried to relax. Drith was having fun, wasn't that what mattered here?

Imarith didn't have to tell Leith twice. The blue was up like a shot, following the green that called to him. She was glorious and beautiful. His desire was growing and he didn't attempt to stop it. Neither did E'rae who was becoming rather warm. The pair of them had been chasing for quite a few turns so this was nothing they weren't used to. The room was becoming a bit crowded though.

Ked trumpeted and launched himself to the air. On the ground, his rider swayed on his feet when their bond really snapped into place and strengthened. The rider and dragon were one being.

Zith lunged after the fleeing green with relish. Despite his rider's outward reservations, the young bronze latched onto a deeper emotion, hidden in J'ackt psyche, that spurred him on to desire the green with feverish intensity. He had to have her. He had to have her first. J'ackt exhaled with a sharp burst and closed his eyes, letting Zith's needs take over. There was little else he could do.

Yumath trumpeted his desire for the young green and with strokes of strong steady wings, he pulled himself forward. While not as agile as the blues, or even the browns, he had staying power and strength enough to appeal.

Like the other males, Mayfeth unfurled his impressively, dark blue wings and bolted into the sky, his sole focus-- the glowing green figure of Alina's green Imarith.

The air from chasing wings buffeted her. Imarith felt the first hint of unease as one of the blues swept too close and she dodged by folding her wings and tumbling briefly through the air so quickly she barely registered doing it at all. She didn't _want_ to be caught. Or Alina didn't. It wasn't clear. But the feeling was soon buried beneath the euphoria of flight and of being desired. All these dragons, here for _her_!

Seeing the near miss, Leith dove after her. }:They shouldn't have her!:{ he shouted in his own mind, echoing through his rider's mind as well. E'rae gave out an almost growling noise, frustrated. The blue put on more speed, dipping through the clouds. }:Imarith I will take you to the stars and the moons. We will fall until forever. Fly with me, verdant one!:{

}: Pick me, I'm strong. I can keep you in the air long, :{ Ked appealed to her and boasted a bit. He dodge another male and put out a little more speed.

But Imarith didn't get a chance to pick. She swooped but was too slow, and blue wings enfolded her as Mayfeth plucked her from the sky. There
was a brief struggle as her rider resisted, but then Imarith was gleefully twining her neck around Mayfeth's and they were falling from the sky.

Mayfeth let out a proud, pleased bugle as he spread his dark wings wide and carried his glowing, green prize away from the Weyr.

On the ground, Alina met S'avn's lips with her own with an intensity edged with anger, too deeply lost in her dragon's lust to notice as they stumbled into the nominal privacy of a flight cot.

As Zith fell back, J'ackt watched with an almost pained expression as S'avn caught Alina, but allowed himself to be drawn away by a flight moth. He didn't care that it was Jerinne's arms that drew him away; his mind was elsewhere.
