Planning to Have Fun

"Hey." D'shiel was a man of few words this early in the day. At least the greeting was polite, more or less.

Meledei straightened up. Most days, she started off with a run down the beach, greeting the day with swiftness of foot. D'shiel had caught her upon her return, stretching the muscles that had been pleasantly worked and easing the tension from them. "Hey D'shiel, long time no see. How are you?"

"Alive," he replied. He'd feel better after the run he hadn't started yet. "I must have gotten up late this morning."

"Just alive?" Meledei stood upon one leg and drew the other up, keeping it still with a hand to stretch out her muscles in the front part of her thigh. "Did you not sleep well?"

"I did, I'm just not a morning person, that's all." He started his warm-up routine.

"It takes practise." Meledei did prefer to sleep in when she could, but not all the time. By sleeping in on a regular basis, she found that she actually had_less_ energy for some reason. "So what have you been up to lately?"

"Oh you know me, same old, same old." He shrugged. That wasn't strictly true; he was doing better lately.

"Nothing exciting?" Meledei did the same thing to her other leg, balancing on the one she had previously been stretching.

"Well, there's a woman... but it's early days yet. We're just friends having fun at the moment."

"Oh really?" Meledei settled her foot back on the ground and grinned over at the bronzerider. "What have you been doing to have fun?"

He shrugged. "Sparring, working out. I took her abseiling. I think she enjoyed herself."

"Well, would you like something else to do with her? If so, I know of a gather that's being held next rest day." Meledei did enjoy her Gathers. "Would you two care to come along?"

He hesitated, unsure how to reply. What would Barenziah think? There was only one way to find out. "I can ask, but...three's a crowd. Not that I mind being with two beautiful women."

Meledei laughed and shook her head. "I'll most likely invite someone too, so there'd be at least four of us. It'll be fun, a lot more so than going alone."

"Oh?" D'shiel raised an eyebrow at her. "Just 'someone' or someone in particular?"

"Just someone I promised I'd tell when there was another gather." Endarin wouldn't be required to stick with her if he didn't want to either, but she hoped he would. Maybe Meledei would see if any of her other friends wanted to come as well. "So how about we meet at half past eight on the next rest day?"

"Sure." D'shiel gave her a knowing smile. "See you then."
