J'ackt

J'ackt

She hadn't said anything, humiliation and grief rendering Jerinne unable to even get out of bed for a few days. Even after she did, the thought of J'ackt was too painful. But then that pain turned to anger-- for what he'd done to her, for the callous way he'd treated her in the dining cavern when she'd gone to share her joy with him. For the way he'd used her and discarded her when she was done. Jerinne wanted to hurt him as badly as he'd hurt her, but she also didn't want to see his smirking, traitorous face ever again.

Instead she wrote a note and gave it to one of the other drudges to deliver with his breakfast. 'J'ackt - I know you'll be overjoyed to know that our baby is dead. Have a great day celebrating. -Jerinne'

J'ackt stared at the note before he even put the first bite of food into his mouth. He felt both relief and anger all at once. Relief that he wasn't saddled with Jerinne and anger that she assumed that he'd be celebrating. His fist clenched on his eating knife as he eyed the paper, then slowly and carefully put it down before he stabbed at something. He rose, buckled his trousers and slipped on a shirt, then left his weyr with his food untouched.

He knew exactly where Jerinne slept. He'd been there before and it wasn't hard to get to. He found the door and banged on it, the note crumpled in his fist.

It took a while, but finally the door was yanked open. Jerinne stood barefoot in the threshold, her hair a mess and giant dark circles under her eyes. She scowled when she saw him. "Get lost."

He shoved the note at her, matching her scowl completely. "Too gutless to tell me yourself? Maybe you should have stayed on your teas. "

"Did you really just come here to gloat now that our baby is _dead_?!" Her lip curled back in a sneer even as her eyes filled with tears. "You're such a piece of wherry shit and I am _done_ with you. Go away!"

"Your baby." He snapped back. "Not mine. I didn't want it and I'm not sorry that I don't have to be stuck with you!" He was being nasty and he knew that perhaps he should have been more understanding of her pain, but at the moment, her tears made him feel even worse. "If you'd stayed on your teas, it would have never happened in the first place! I didn't want a baby with you. All _you_ were was a piece of ass!"

"It _was_ your baby-- you don't get to run away from that!" Jerinne was crying now, her face blotchy and wet with tears. "And you got your flaming wish-- it's _dead_!"

"Hey!" One of the doors down the hall swung open and an irate older woman stuck her head out. "Keep it down! Some of us are trying to sleep!"

J'ackt looked at the yelling woman with a malignant snarl before turning back to Jerinne. "Good! Faranth knows you'd be shite as a mother anyway!" He flung the note at her face even as shame leaked into his mind. His mother would have been ashamed of his actions, but he couldn't bring himself to take the words back. He couldn't. He turned and began stalking away, anger and shame reverberating in his mind. He was as horrible a person as his father and he was shaffing sure that he would make sure this never happened again.

Jerinne flinched away from the falling the note, then took a step back into her weyr. "Do everyone a favour and go die in Thread!" she shouted, then slammed the door.

"Bitch!" He called back, just as viciously.
