"Come in," she called out hearing a knock at her door.
"You asked to see me?" Dirwol walked in. He nodded to the woman sitting in front of him.
"Yes I did Journeyman. Take a seat." She watched as the lad did so. "It's Dirwol, isn't it?"
"Yes ma'am."
"How are you finding it here? Are you settling okay?"
"Yes ma'am I am. Though I had not expected to become a candidate once I arrived. I just see it as one more adventure." He smiled.
She nodded in response. "Where were you posted before we came here?"
"I was headed up to help Journeyman Hedias up at Great Point Hold. Not far from here. It's not to big and it's part of Topaz sea holds territory. I didn't quite make it there before I was caught in a storm. Once out I went back to the Hall. It was gone so I came here. I was searched and, well here I am."
"I see. How do you feel about the move? To the Weyr I mean." Some had been enthusiastic about the idea, other had merely wanted to find somewhere new to live, but had come to realize that perhaps the Weyr was not for them.
And there were those that objected to her - some rumors it seemed were because she was a woman, others because of her being a printer.
"It is an interesting move. I'm sure it hasn't been easy." He smiled. He was easygoing and quiet usually. He had heard of her advancement and while most were angry, he did not mind so much. As long as she did her job, there should be no problem.
"There are a few who seem to have had trouble adapting to their new home,"
she said, noting that Dirwol didn't seem to be one of them. "Do you plan to keep up your studies? Whether you impress or not that is."
"I would like to. I enjoy my craft and would hate to let all it's training go to waste." He meant it. "Though I'd like to stay on at the Weyr if possible. I've noticed a few promising students."
"I see, is teaching your interest?" she asked. If it were, she'd make a note to introduce him to Karaleigh and see if she needed any assistance with the weyr children. From what she could see, some of them made life much more 'interesting' than teaching at a hold.
"I enjoy it." He answered.
"Which age group?" she asked. "Younger children or older children?"
"I like working with all ages. I'll be happy where I am needed." he smiled softly. "I also have two flits. I don't know if you'd wish to know of them."
"I see, well what I'll do, is I'll ask Journeyman Karaleigh if she needs another teacher at the Weyr itself, and we'll take it from there."
"Of course Ma'am. I will be happy with whatever decision is made." He smiled. "Will that be all?"
"For the moment Journeyman."
