Cyradis
Kapera

Kapera

It was late evening, after they had woken up in the flight room, after
they'd gone their separate ways and she had washed up. Now Kapera
wanted to talk to Cyradis. She was wearing soft slippers that made
little noise on the stone floors as she made her way down the halls,
and spent the whole trip wondering what she'd find. If the Weyrwoman
would be upset. If it was even too late to go speak to her, if she was
busy with family time. Maybe she should have asked Riyanth to reach
out to Panitath, but her gold was fast asleep again.

She rapped on the door to Cyradis' weyr, standing awkwardly for a moment.

Cyradis hadn't been back at the Weyr for very long after having taken
Panitath away for the flight, but she'd had a chance to change out of
her flying leathers into one of the comfortable shift dresses she
typically wore at home. Padding over to the door she opened it then
smiled and opened it wider. "Congratulations on a successful flight."

"Thank you," Kapera said, looking down slightly. "I'm not interrupting
family time?"

"No, not at all." She turned toward the sideboard. "Would you like a
glass of wine?"

"Yes, please," Kapera said. "Where did you and Panitath go?"

"To the Vintner Hall," she said. "It isn't the same as when I was
young but it smells the same." She smiled and after having poured the
glass of wine handed it to Kapera. "This was selected for me by Master
Clovente himself. I think you'll like it."

"Do you enjoy getting the chance to visit home?" she asked before
taking a sniff of the wine and then a sip. "Oh, this is wonderful."

"Well it's like home but not really, if you know what I mean." She
knew Kapera was aware she'd been raised at the Vintner Hall but had
left for the Weyr long before the earthquake had destroyed Amethyst
Cliff and the hall had moved to Amber Hills. "It is isn't it," she
smiled. Then she tilted her head. "So what did you need to see me
about?"

"I wanted to talk about the flight," Kapera admitted. "It didn't quite
go as I had hoped."

"I can understand that I think? Were you hoping for someone else?"
Cyradis tried not to let anything of her own feelings on her face.

"A bit," she admitted. "But I know it's not always up to me. I was
trying to have it be Riyanth's choice. I don't know him that well and
I'm nervous about what the next few months will be like."

It wasn't obligatory for the queenrider to spend a lot of time with
the clutch sire, of course. Not every goldflight ended in a
relationship like those in Harper's tales. Oh, sometimes it did.
Sometimes, especially for Weyrwomen and their 'leaders, it ended in
good working relationships. And sometimes they couldn't stand each
other and avoided at all times but the Hatching itself. Kapera didn't
know what to expect from D'hol.

Cyradis managed a credible smile and nodded. "He's complex but can be
very charming and supportive during a time like this. Yumath's a good
clutch sire."

"Riyanth seems pleased. She's very demanding when she clutches, I hope
he's up to it," Kapera said. "And he's charming? Really? He always
seemed kind of standoffish... Although Jeyme seems very happy."

**Well that or he'll completely ignore you** but Cyradis wasn't going
to tell her that or even hint at the spike of, what was that,
jealousy? **No!** she denied it to herself quickly and emphatically.

"I'm sure Yumath will be everything she desires in a clutch sire," she
nodded pleasantly.

}:Yumath is mine. They are all mine,:{ the senior gold declared with a
discontented rumble. **Not this time sweetheart. This time he is
Riyanth's which is why we went to the Hall** But she could feel her
gold pouting much as she wanted to, and rolled her eyes at Kapera.
"She always gets this way after another queen's flight. Sorry."

Kapera half-shrugged. "That's how queens work. I know how Riyanth got
after flights." Though even juniors could get hissy over other junior
or senior flights, especially if one was won by a bronze she favored.

"Which is why we have to separate them at times like that right?" She
smiled and let the change in subject absorb her.

"So have you talked at all with Chaysea about what you'd like for the
hatching feast this time?"

"Not yet, I figured I'd think about it until the clutch. At least the
Technicians work has finished in the kitchens and there won't be any
cooking in the weyrbowl, right?" Kapera said.

"There doesn't have to be," Cyradis nodded. "We can do what you'd
like." She was rather thankful the topic had changed.

"I think I'd prefer a few fewer seafood options. I'll have to talk to
her, I don't want to deplete our stock of other meats or have to
impose on the tithes, but sometimes I miss non-coastal foods."

"I know what you mean," She smiled back. "Maybe we can get some of the
riders to go out and gather some wild werry for deep pit cooking. I
love the way that meat tastes."

That sounded amazing. "If Chaysea's okay with making it, I'd love to
suggest that to some riders. We'll have people competing to bring back
the biggest."

"And if she makes her special chili sauce..." just the thought of that
spicy sweet tangy sauce and it's variations made her mouth water.

Kapera grinned at the idea. "I've got to bring it up now."

Cyradis smiled back. "Glad I could help. I can also contact the
Vintner Hall and see if we can trade for some special beer for the
occasion."
