"You had to do it, didn't you?" D'hol didn't bother knocking on the
door frame of Cyradis' office to announce himself. It was first thing
in the morning and it appeared as if the man hadn't slept well, if at
all. His face was strained as he stared at Cyradis' back. "You
know...I never did anything to you except want you."
"Oh," she turned to look at him squarely. "You think this about me?
Well I assure you Wingleader that I am quite distressed to lose a good
wingrider through your shortsightedness."
She spread her hands. "Of course if you wish to blame it on me, please
feel free."
"I do blame you." He replied, his voice strained. "She's taking my
son." His jaw worked from side to side and he remained where he was,
leaning against the door frame. "You could have always told her no.
That she couldn't transfer. You knew the one way to really hurt me was
to help her take my child away.." D'hol looked straight in her eyes.
"You did it too, but what's worse is that I was with Dheymin every
single day." He swallowed, his eyes looking almost hollow. "At least I
didn't know about Kielya and what I was missing."
He pushed away from the door frame, finally standing straight. "I get
it, Cyradis. Halendra told me all about what happened with you before
you came here. I get the similarities." His face grew pained and a
little angry. Halendra had been quite smug about how she had crushed
Cyradis. "Difference is, what I did wasn't meant to purposely hurt
anyone. It just happened. What you and Jeyme decided to do
together....I knew you could be cruel, I just didn't know you could be
that cruel."
"You know nothing. Nothing of what it costs a woman to bring a child
into the world. Nothing of what it costs to put up with a bronzeriders
ego." Her eyes were dark and cold as she stared at him.
"You know nothing of what that bitch cost me. And you don't have the
right to throw her in my face. Do _not_ bring her up again if you wish
to remain in any way my friend. Do you just enjoy hitting people with
the worst possible weapon that comes to your hand?" Cyradis gave him
her back again.
"You did this to Jeyme. I gave her a way to escape the pain and become
whole again. If you wish to see your son make arrangements with the
Far Island Weyrwoman."
"You hit me with a weapon just as bad, if not worse." His eyes were
watery as he stared at her back, but he didn't let her see. His jaw
clenched and he blinked rapidly. " You know, now I don't think it was
ever really
possible to be your friend again. You got your revenge for what ever
pains N'lon and I brought you. Be satisfied with it." He pushed away
from the door and walked back to his own weyr to spend his restday by
himself.
She heard him go but continued to stare sightlessly out at the
Weyrbowl. She'd not set out to hurt him after she'd realized her own
reaction had resulted from her past. But like she had after that
incident, she understood why Jeyme had to leave, had to find a new
life. Her empathy was with the greenrider. Men could survive without
their small children, **Crackdust! you should have thought about this
before you decided to stick it in Kapera.**
She was very grateful to whatever strength she'd had to keep him at
arms length and not bear equal guilt for Jeyme's need to leave Dolphin
Cove.
She shook her head and turned back around to stare at the door. He
never thought it was possible to be her friend did he? Then what did
he want with her? So much for professions of caring.
She would never spread for him if that had been his goal all along.
It made a terrible kind of sense to her now. He'd never loved her any
more than N'lon had. In her core she believed that now more than ever.
She'd been a means to an end and when they had what they wanted, they
lost interest or left. So, if that was what he wanted, he could just
hold his breath, turn blue and jump /between./
Except K'deren. Her steady brownrider was the best thing that had
happened to her besides her children. **Where's Donneth's**
