Description: Vatirel helps Dessa with an introduction to weyrlife.

Date: month 1, day 24 of Turn 9

Dessa walked out of the candidate class with her thoughts spinning and
cheeks flushed. She carried her notes against her chest like a shield.
She might not have been squirming or giggling nevously but the subject
of the last class had made her uncomfortable. It also gave something
new to think about.

"Well, that was very interesting lesson and one you don't get at the
Harper Hall," she said to Vatirel.

"They at least give you the facts of how babies happen part, right?" he
asked.

He assumed that the Holds and Halls wouldn't give any of the
information about, "sometimes men do things together" or "women do
things together" or "there are fun options for pleasure that don't
involve making babies at all". And certainly not the "how to prevent
babies" part.

"Yes, and they also tell us to keep our legs tightly crossed until we
are wed," Dessa replied. "They definitely don't tell us straight out
to explore your sexuality and have sex before Impressing."

"I'm weyrbred so it seems odd that you don't learn that. Or that they
say we can't be with others like us," he mused. "Did you find the
protection information useful?"

"Yes," Dessa nodded. "I can see why they don't want all the female
riders being pregnant whole the time." This was actually said with her
hidden, wry humour.

"It'd reduce the population of flying greenriders for sure. I'm so
glad I don't have to worry about that," he said honestly.

Not to mention having children could be dangerous for a woman, but
Dessa didn't want to bring that up. Too morbid. Instead, she had other
things in her mind. "Have you done it? Had sex, I mean?" she asked out
of pure curiousity.

"I have. With a few people. It's rather fun," he said.

Then he decided to be as candid as possible with her. "With both men
and women. Does that bother you at all?" he asked.

Dessa searched her emotions for a moment and sounded bit surprised
when she replied. "No, not at all. It's none of my business anyway."
She sighed and continued. "I haven't even _kissed_ anyone. How do you
proceed having a sex?" He seemed like one who could give her advise.
She was totally inexperienced in these things. Whatever suitors she
had had, she had rejected them straightaway.

"For me, I find that it depends on if there are feelings involved or
not. With the last person, I was nervous about telling her I had any
feelings and it took months before we got to that point. When it's
something casual, a girl or boy I like and want to tumble with, it can
be easier to just say what I want."

He slowed his pace and turned to face her. "For example, I might say,
'Dessa, you're beautiful and I'd like to kiss you'. If you said yes,
we would see where it goes."

"I would like to maximise my chances of Impressing, which means losing
my virginity before Impressing. So, I don't have months," Dessa
replied. She gave Vatirel a scrutinizing once-over. He was nice and
she liked him, not a bad looking either and she felt safe around him.
There was probably worse options. "If you want to kiss me, I wouldn't
object."

"That's a very practical attitude for someone not from the Weyr. I
know a few holdbred riders who have Impressed virgin, some of who even
went to their flights that way. Your decision sounds much smarter to
me," he confessed.

She was pretty and willing, and he didn't mind the idea of being her
teacher _at all_. "In that case..." he said, slowly stepping towards
her, giving her a chance to back out, before leaning in and closing
his lips to hers.

"I am a practical kind of girl," Dessa admitted. When he stepped
closer to kiss her, she leaned bit back to him. She didn't know what
to expect. What she felt was not earth-shattering. It was pleasant
enough, sending a warm wave thru her.

When it seemed like she wasn't resisting and wasn't appalled, Vatirel
stepped even closer so he could wrap his arms around her back. Kissing
Dessa was nice and warm. "How was that?" he asked when the kiss broke.

"It was pleasant," she replied. Somehow her fingers were now holding
Vatirel's shirt.

"That's a good start," he said. "Would you like to find somewhere more
private to continue lessons in kissing and other things?"

Shards, but he didn't need more rumors about what he did in public to fly!

"I think that's a good idea," Dessa replied. She didn't really care
about her reputation but she was hold-bred enough not to want do some
things in public.

"Follow me, then." he said, knowing just the right place.
