Description: Timassa retrieves K'yne when J'ackt is injured.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr, Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 9, day 28 of Turn 9
She bundled up more than usual knowing where she was going didn't make
it any easier. The healers were working on J'ackt but there was no
guarantee and K'yne had a right to know. She made her preparations
carefully knowing that hurrying could be the first step to disaster.
So she also double checked her work.
**Tell Youmath's that we'll be back soon.** was her only message
before she took off for Dragonsfall.
Coming out above the starstones she hailed the watch with a greeting
and an emergency message. Then she had Saryolth reach out to both
Chioneth and Arinoth with the message that J'ackt had been injured. It
was very early morning and she had no idea if they would even be
awake.
}:My ledge is open,:{ Arinoth replied to Saryolth by way of invitation.
K'yne was a light sleeper and the first nudge from his lifemate had
been enough to bring him around. The message about J'ackt, on the
other hand, seemed to be tangled somewhere in his brain as he flicked
on the lights, creating a light hum of electricity in the quiet of the
weyr. He wanted to hear from Timassa's lips exactly what had happened.
Saryolth touched down next to the big brown and Timassa slid off her
back. "K'yne?" she called as she came into the darkened weyr. The sun
had lightened the sky a bit but hadn't yet peeked over the horizon.
"In here," he called. The brownrider had already pulled on a pair of
pants and raked his fingers through his hair.
She was almost breathless as she entered his sleeping area, "You have
to come to Dolphin Cove," she said ignoring his state of dress.
Obviously, she'd woken him but that didn't matter. What mattered was
J'ackt. "J'ackt has been attacked in the lower caverns. He's lost
quite a bit of blood and the healers are working on him."
"He was attacked in the Weyr?" he clarified, unable to believe
something so bold had taken place at Dolphin Cove. While he waited for
Timassa's reply he shoved his arms into a shirt and shrugged it up
over his shoulders.
"Yes," she said. "Looked like a holder. The others didn't seem to
recognize him, like he didn't belong there."
K'yne sat down and stamped his boots on, and then he froze, hand
running down his face before he looked up at Timassa. He always tried
to avoid looking directly at her, because she looked too much like
Ocktima, "J'ackt and I aren't exactly close. If he doesn't want me
there... Should I go?"
She almost flinched at those eyes but held them almost belligerently.
"J'ackt isn't close with anyone," she said. "I think you need to be
there when he wakes up just to prove you do care." She looked away
after that and just turned around in a circle. "He's as difficult as
they come," she said. "He'll keep pushing you away until you can show
him you're not going anywhere. Sound familiar?" Her sister had been
that way at one time.
"Like your whole shardin' family," he muttered as he stood for his
jacket. "Is that why you moved to Dolphin Cove? To prove to him that
you cared?"
"Pretty much," she said. "He wouldn't listen to me otherwise. But I
just have to be more stubborn than he is," she half smiled. "So do you
if you want any kind of relationship with him."
"I've never been one to force myself where I wasn't wanted, you know
that." That was the entire reason he'd never gone back for Ocktima.
He'd waited to hear from her. **And we see how that turned out,** he
thought sourly.
"I know," she nodded. "But we have a responsibility as his nearest
living relatives to be there for him whether he wants it or not." She
looked hard at him. "You have to be there for him like you were for
your brother's children. You're the only da, he's got."
K'yne shrugged into the coat and adjusted the collar, "I know, and....
He's the last piece of Ocktima I have."
"Right," she said and turned away quickly so he didn't see her tear.
She herself was a part of Ocktima that never seemed to occur to him.
She walked back out into the early morning chill and mounted keeping
her face averted until she got herself back under control. Maybe that
was the reason she never went near K'yne. **Yeah keep telling yourself
that.**
The brownrider followed her out, unaware of the inner turmoil that he
had caused. }:Chioneth's rider says she expects an update when you
return.:{ Arinoth informed him as K'yne buckled himself into his
riding straps. **Tell her I will let her know something as soon as I
do.**
She didn't wait but dove off the ledge and from there into the sky. A
few wingbeats later they were /between/. They popped out over the
weyr and began their descent to the bowl. Once on the ground, she
turned and waited for K'yne to land.
Arinoth bugled his arrival to the watch dragon on duty before circling
down to land beside of Saryolth. K'yne pulled off his riding helmet,
and gloves and left them tucked beneath one of Arinoth's straps.
"Lead the way," he gestured to Timassa to go first.
She nodded and turned toward the infirmary. "They're being very
careful to make sure no one else gets near him before they find out
exactly what happened.
That made sense. "I'm right behind you," he said, trying to mentally
prepare himself for whatever he might see when he laid eyes on J'ackt.
