Kirra wandered down the corridor lazily. She had finished her chores early and so she had thought it would be interesting to get lost in the Weyr's vast amout of halls and passages. Not really knowing where she was going she began humming a pleasant tune she had thought up that morning. She noticed that she was walking a hall that must be far within the Weyr because the torches that were lit were few and far between. The light glowed softly in the corridor. She looked farther down the hall, her eyes focusing on each circle of glowing of light. Then her eyes landed on a figure sitting under one of the torches. He seemed to be writing. She knew that it was a man because his shoulders were rather broad and his legs were far more muscular and hairy than any woman's she had seen.
All of a sudden she heard a soft low melody all through out the corridor.
It was a slow light tune, and Kirra couldn't help but sway to the sweet song. Then it stopped. She looked at the man and could see that his head was lifted and was looking at her. Kirra realized, feeling silly, that he had been the one that had been humming the song.
X'amor wasn't surprised he hadn't heard the girl, he often became so enveloped in the words and tunes of his songs that he didn't hear anything else. He had seen her though, swaying to the tune he had been humming. "Can I help you..." she was in the shadow and he couldn't see her knots.
"Kirra, I'm a candidate here." She began walking towards him calmly, even though she had a fuzzy feeling inside that made her want to skip and run. X'amor gave a quiet sigh. The last thing he needed when he was writing was some silly candidate goggling at him and asking him annoying questions.
Looking at his hides again he repeated himself, "Can I help you Candidate?"
Calodith repremanded his rider.}:Be nice, she doesn't seem like one of those people. She wouldn't have just stood there listening if she was like one of them.:{ X'amor didn't respond to his dragon though he knew that Calodith was right.
Kirra stopped, considering this man. She was close enough to see that he had bluerider knots. He was also a harper by the looks of it. Why was he not excited to have an audience? She answered her own question noticing that she had walked up on a man who was trying to write in peace and quiet.
She smiled, well he's just going to have to deal with her there because she couldn't get herself to turn away from this intregueing rider. She gave him a generous smile, "Yes, you could tell me your name and then sing the song you are writing." She had no idea why she was being so blunt but it seemed that just _being_ with this rider she couldn't keep her thoughts in her head. }:She seems determined to talk to you.:{ X'amor was taken aback. He watched as the young woman, for that is what he thought her body and forwardness prooved, sat down beside him against the wall. It took him a second to respond, "Very well. I'm X'amor, rider of blue Calodith." Kirra put out her hand for him to shake. The rider looked at the girl's smiling face. He realized that once he had looked he couldn't take his eyes away from her. X'amor gave her his hand and her smile broadened. "It's nice to meet you X'amor, rider of blue Calodith." She shook his hand firmly.
"Nice... uh, to meet you too."
There was an odd silence as they continued shaking hands. Then Kirranna gasped in awe. When he had looked at her she saw his eyes, their deep charcoal color and amber sparkle. They were the most amazing eyes she had ever seen.
**Most people are afraid of how strange my eyes are... she likes them...**
}:I told you they were gorgeous eyes! I'm liking this girl more and more:{ Calodith sent him images of aproovle and eagerness to get to know this girl better.
X'amor smiled at his dragon's excitement, **Yes well, I have always thought you liked every thing about me Calodith.**
}:Finally you're in a better mood!:{ "So what about that song?" Kirra had started recognizing the look that riders got when they were talking to their dragons, but she wanted to get to know this rider better and she very well couldn't do that with him talking to his dragon.
"What? Oh yeah. I haven't put the finishng touches on the melody yet but it's a start." It was the same tune but once he had closed his eyes and let go, the song that was pent up in his gut just waiting to be heard and felt by someone else with the same passion that he himself felt for the music, turned into a beautiful song full of feeling and strength. X'amor opened his eyes to see that the girl had closed her eyes as well. He watched as she heaved a great sigh and smiled as she saw him looking at her when she opened them up. "That was beautiful." "Thank you, so are you. I mean..." X'amor stuttered around for words that could cover up his blunder. Seeing her so content with hearing the music he had hummed for her, made her incredibly radient. "I'm sorry...I..." Kirra's face was afire but she didn't mind it since she felt that she would rather have this rider telling her she was beautiful than all the others in the Weyr. "No, no it's alright." She bravely took his hand, "You're an amazing harper, why do you not sing in public?" For a moment X'amor couldn't find his tongue to answer her he was to stunned by her touch to. "Well, it just seems that most people don't apreciate my music. They think that it's too serious." "Well _I_ would apreciate it if I heard you playing, I _do_ apreciate it." "I...well, I guess I might start singing if you think that people would like it."
"I think they would, just give them a chance."
"Yes, well..." X'amor had no idea what he was doing. He didn't understand why all of the sudden this girl was pretty much waiting for him to kiss her. Only inches away. No one around to bother them...
"I have to go," he started gathering up his things.
"What?" Kirra was confused.
"I, uh, have to go practice with the wing, I'm late." Kirra could see his confusion as well, his sudden fear. "Well I guess we'll see each other again. Right?"
"Sure, sure..." Then he left her in the corridor alone as he tried to organize his feelings. Kirra sighed. Just when she thought she might be interested in someone...
