"Momma! The egg is hatching!" Kielya's voice rang out through the
weyr, vibrant in its excitement. "It's moving!" The little girl
scurried wildly around the kitchen area of the weyr, digging in
cabinets for anything the little hatchling might eat. "Where's the
jerky? Or the meatrolls? I can't find anything!"

Cyradis smiled and shook her head, "On my desk, sweet heart. Shadow's
treats." And speaking of Shadow, the little brown sat near the basket
crooning to the egg as it rocked in the basket.

Kielya darted towards the desk, snatching up the treats before
hurrying back towards the rocking egg. She plopped down, her eyes
intent and fingers wiggling; she was the picture of childish
excitement. "Come on..." she urged, "come on out..." She looked up at
her mother, suddenly remembering. "Can you call Papa? I told him I'd
let him know so he could watch."

"Sure," Cyradis chuckled under her breath.

}:Mine says the little egg is rocking,:{ Panitath told Yumath, }:Mines
little one wishes your to come see.:{

}: Mine is coming. :{ Yumath sounded amused at the flurry of activity
around the hatching of the little egg.

Kielya stared at the egg intently, her tongue sticking out of the
corner of her mouth as she waited, ready to pounce with available
treats the moment that the little flit's head popped into view. She
didn't even noticed when D'hol knocked and was allowed entrance.

He had brought a small bag of wherry jerky, but when he saw his
daughter with a similar pouch of treats, he handed them to Cyradis.
"Excited just a bit?" His lip corner curled in amusement.

Cyradis wrinkled her nose and held up her finger and thumb with a tiny
space between them. "Just a tiny little bit." Then she heard the first
little crack. "Oooh," she turned toward the egg and she leaned in.

Kielya gave a little peep of excitement and her entire body quivered
as a tiny little nose thrust through the crack and gave a little
frustrated peep. She reached out instinctively, but D'hol was quick.
"Don't help it, Kielya. He has to do this himself." The little nose
withdrew and thrust out again, the sapphire hide gleaming in the
firelight as it struggled with making the crack wider.

D'hol looked at Cyradis and teeth flashed for a moment. A blue.

D'hol's smile was so rare it was almost startling. She couldn't help
the return of her own genuine smile.

"Just be patient a little while longer Kielya," she said as she leaned
forward almost as eagerly as her daughter.

Kielya quivered as she waited, her little body straining against
itself in an effort not to swoop in and help the egg open.

D'hol watched with an amused smile and while he watched, his arm
unconsciously draped itself around Cyradis' back, his hand light but
warm on her side. As the little head thrust out further, the shell
opened with a crackle. The little blue dragon squirmed and gave a peep
as he spread out and kicked off bits of egg shell. The tiny baby
lifted his head and gave another plaintive chirrup.

"Now," Cyradis said softly and nudged her daughters shoulder. She
unconsciously leaned into D'hol as she watched.

Kielya immediately offered the peeping baby little chunks of meat and
treats and before long, the little hatchling had crawled into her hand
and was stuffing himself.

D'hol chuckled, remembering Yumath as a much larger hatchling, but
still with the same voracious appetite. He felt Cyradis' warmth and
looked down at her head as she watched their daughter. It was hard to
ignore the clench around his middle at the warmth and relaxation that
she was displaying. He turned his gaze back to Kielya, even as he gave
Cyradis a gentle embrace, tightening his hold only a moment.

"Oh hes beautiful," Cyradis peered over her daughter's shoulder. She
didn't reach out to the tiny blue though. The bond with her daughter
had just formed and soon the little one would sleep. It wasn't the
time for others to intrude.

Shadow flew up to the top of a nearby curtain and her eyes followed
him. She could see his eyes whirling in the semi darkness. Then she
felt the gentle squeeze and her eyes dropped to D'hol. They were still
dark pools but there were no negative feelings as she gaze up at him
for a moment.

Kielya fed the little flit dutifully and paid little attention to her
parents. Soon, the tiny blue flit curled up in her hands and gave a
loving cheep of contentment. Kielya drew the little flit in like he
was an infant and carefully cradled him in her arms, cooing. "So
pretty. He's so pretty. What should I name you, hm?"

D'hol looked down at Cyradis and met her gaze. His eyes were warm and
unguarded, genuine affection revealed that wasn't solely for his
daughter. His thumb stroked over her waist for a moment and his eyes
flicked down to her mouth before coming back to meet her eyes. He
bent, then visibly stopped himself and pulled back, turning to Kielya
as he cleared his throat. "Anything you like, Kielya."

Cyradis was almost mesmerized and for a moment didn't move but then
she put a hand on his chest and with a soft smile stepped out of his
embrace. She caught the hand that had been at her waist and gave it a
slight squeeze acknowledging the almost moment. Then she turned and
dropped down beside their daughter.

"He's beautiful," she smiled at Kielya. "Maybe you should wait until
you know him better before you name him. What do you think?"

D'hol exhaled slowly and with a mental shake, focused on his daughter
rather than the moment that passed between them.

Kielya nodded, her eyes never leaving the precious bundle in her arms.
"Yeah. He's sweet, isn't he? " She rocked the baby much like she would
have an infant and crooned. "Can he sleep with me?"

"Well, he's really tiny," she replied. "You wouldn't want to hurt him
by accident in your sleep. So how about we put his basket next to
you?"

"Okay." She finally looked up at beamed at both of her parents. "This
is the best day ever."
