Things were too complex, they were moving too fast. Right this moment
she almost felt overwhelmed by the enormity of what she'd done and
admitted. She sat with Panitath and the new eggs. There wasn't really
anything for her to do here but think. So maybe that was why she'd
come. As with most dragonriders, the presence of their lifemate
helped them remain calm and centered and it was no different for her.
Wylra's visit had brought home to her some of the consequences of her
recent actions. Yes, she'd used the tools of his own children on the
man and taken his decision away from him without remorse. It was her
job to see to the welfare of all the Weyr's residents! **Yeah, keep
telling yourself that.**
She'd been selfish and she knew it. She couldn't let him go without
saying goodbye. So she'd pulled Yumath from the sky that day. And then
she'd gone and admitted her feelings to him and gone well beyond that.
But she loved him _and_ she loved K'deren just as fiercely. She was a
dragon rider and it was allowed for her to love more than one man, yet
her Hall upbringing still made her feel guilty or that she'd done
something wrong at times like this.
}:I bring you a snack,:{ Donneth gently messaged Panitath. }: May I bring it
to you, and may my rider enter?:{
}: You may bring my snack:{ Panitath still curled around her eggs
protectively. }: Yours may come to visit mine.:{
Donneth entered slowly, laying a large, freshly killed herdbeast close to
Panitath. }: Your eggs are most beautiful,:{ he told her.
"He brought her food, so I thought I'd take the hint," K'deren said as he
came in, a covered plate in one hand. "Or rather I intercepted a young lady
from the kitchens on her way up with some snacks and gave her back a few
minutes of her day."
Panitath always approved of compliments to her eggs so she approved of
Donneth coming a little closer. She stretched her neck to pull the
beast closer and to thank Donneth for the gift.
Cyradis smiled warmly as her weyrmate brought her the food. "Oh thank
you," she said.
"You think better when you aren't hungry," her weyrmate told her.
She smiled a little sadly and took the tray. "I'm worried about D'hol
and Yumath," she said. She had thought she'd done exactly the right
thing until the older greenrider had shown up. "Do you think I did the
right thing making him have the surgery?"
"If it really is going to make his life better, and keep him and Yumath here
for the Weyr, then yes, you did the right thing." It had taken K'deren a
while to get to that conclusion. "The only worry would be that he resents
you, and in turn us here at Dolphin Cove for it."
That was certainly possible with D'hol. K'deren probably knew more
about his current state of mind than she did since he worked with him
every day. She nodded at the potential problem. "I told him last
night," she said. She'd never kept her feeling for D'hol secret from
K'deren but she hadn't admitted it to D'hol before last night.
"You did?" K'deren asked gently.
"Yes," she said softly. She knew she wanted to be with K'deren and
stay with him but to do that she had to be honest with herself and
with him. Of course, he knew she'd stayed with him all night too.
After all, she hadn't been in their bed. "I couldn't let him go into
that surgery thinking I hated him."
"Having the right attitude helps, or so I hear." K'deren reached out to put
his arm around her and offer comfort. "Makes it half the battle."
She turned her torso to put her arms around his waist and hide her
face in his shoulder for a moment. "What did I ever do to deserve
you," she said in a muffled voice. She pulled her head back to look up
at him. "I love you so very much."
"I love you too." he said as he held her close. "And I know how you feel
about D'hol too. But, maybe, just maybe after this it might be better that
you tread carefully, just in case he thinks you only said it to make him go
through with the surgery."
"Yes," she nodded. "You're right. I do care about him. But we mix like
oil and water. A certain amount of distance might be a good idea once
he gets through this." Her concentration faltered for a moment. When
she came back she smiled. "Y'gel says it's a fatty tissue growth and
they've got it out."
K'deren slowly let out a breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding.
"Really, that's great news" he said softly. "I should have Timassa let the
wing know."
She put a hand on his chest. "But you'll stay with me?" She found she
needed his support right now.
"Of course, I'll have Donneth tell Saryolth and let her take it from there."
K'deren placed a hand over his weyrmate's hand. "While you need me, I'll be
here."
"Thank you," she said and closed her eyes. She needed to concentrate
with Panitath for Yumath was getting anxious. There was something
going on with D'hol and all she knew was they had to keep Yumath from
flying. She clung to her weyrmate.
