Characters: Cyradis, K'don
Description: K'don brings Cyradis a present to help cheer her up after all of the crazy goings-on this month.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 27 of Turn 9
Notes: Mentioned: Kielya, Timassa, K'deren (not by name), D'hol (not by name)
K'don had noticed that something was bothering Cyradis. Maybe it had
something to do with the attacks, the rider and the smith so close
together? But whatever it was, she clearly needed some cheering up, so
K'don had gone out and picked a bouquet of pretty wildflowers and made
a braided leather bracelet with a bit of a shiny rainbow colored shell
he found woven in.
It was easy enough to get a golden-colored glass vase, even if he
technically was supposed to return it, and when he had finished these
things, he poked his head into Cyradis's office.
"Hi," he said softly with a smile, though he blushed when his voice
broke between registers as he did. "Do you have a minute?"
"Sure," she smiled. "Come on in. I was just going over another hide in
my endless stack and would welcome a break."
K'don entered and set the vase with its flowers on Cyradis's desk,
handed her the bracelet, and then put his arm around her shoulder for
a quick hug.
"It seemed like you might could use some cheering up?" he offered.
She rose from her chair and wrapped her arms around him "Thank you
K'don," she said with tears in her eyes. "You always seem to know. The
flowers are lovely." She let go and stepped back and fingered the
bracelet. "Did you make this?"
Sympathetic tears nearly welled up in K'don's eyes at seeing hers. He
hugged her again, hoping to comfort her.
"I did," he said. "Well, I did the weaving," he corrected. "And I
found the shell, but I had help to make it round like that. Do you
like it?"
She picked it up examining the shell. "It's beautiful," she said then
held it out to him along with her wrist. "Put it on me."
K'don smiled, beaming happily. He took the bracelet and then put it
onto Cyradis's wrist as bidden. He was absolutely tickled that she
wanted to wear it right away.
"I know you have a lot of stuff going on right now," he said. "Is
there anything I can help with?"
"Just keep an eye out for Kielya if you see her. Her da is having a
hard time right now so just watch her and cheer her up if you can?"
She reached out to squeeze his hand. "I appreciate it."
K'don nodded, pondering as he did. He was very clearly making his
thinking face. He would go find Kielya and see what she might say and
maybe bring her a few flowers for her own. He squeezed Cyradis's hand
in return and then smiled.
"I'm happy to," he said.
"Thanks," she smiled. "Oh," she said. "Would you like to come have
dinner tomorrow night with the whole family?"
"I wouldn't miss it!" said K'don, his smile brightening all the more.
Truly, he would move mountains for his family. He did not want to take
up too much of Cyradis's time, but he was also loath to be the one to
call the visit to a close.
"Is Dad OK?" he asked. He could ask himself, of course, but Cyradis
would know better than K'don would. K'deren surely told her things he
could never say to his children.
"Yes," she patted his arm. "He's fine but with D'hol in the infirmary,
he's going to have to lead the wing until he's recovered. It's a big
job. I just wanted to give him a little family time. You know?"
"That's what family is for. Do you think it would help if I offered to
help him with the hidework bits?" K'don asked. He wanted to help, but
at the same time, he did not want to put his father in a position to
have to politely decline.
"You might want to talk to his Wingthird," she said. "Timassa came to
visit D'hol in the infirmary."
K'don nodded. He was not sure how to approach a wingthird he did not
know personally right off the bat, but he was sure he could figure it
out. The direct approach was usually the best. And she would surely
understand his desire to help, even if he flubbed the formality of it.
Cyradis had never steered him wrong before, and he doubted she ever
would.
"I'll ask Maciath to find a time I can talk to her," he said.
Cyradis nodded. "If she thinks they'll need help then follow her lead
about speaking to your da." She shook her arm and looked at the
bracelet again. "Thank you for this," she smiled.
