She was humming as she came out of D'hol's office. Thinking about
where she was going to find some pleasant company for the night. She
thought about just reaching out through Saryolth but then she rounded
a corner and ran smack dab into a very hard chest. The next thing she
knew she was looking up from the floor at a very large man.
"Saffit," she swore. "Don't you believe in making noise when you walk?"
"Don't you believe in looking where you're going?" N'vanik's tone was
mild as he reached a hand out to offer help.
She took the hand and rose to her feet then looked up and up. She had
only ever seen the Weyrlead all geared up for 'Fall. A smile twinkled
in her eyes. "Can't see around corners," she shook her head. "I know
it's a failing."
Even when she was all the way up on her feet, she was still well below
him. "Timassa, right? J'ackt's aunt?" He'd seen her accompanying
J'ackt's stretcher after the attack and passed her a few times on
visits to the infirmary.
"Yes," she smiled. "That's me. His mother was my twin so it's
difficult..." She waved a hand in the air. He didn't need to hear
about their difficulties. "He's told me about you. Though he didn't
tell me you were quite so good looking. Thanks for all you've done for
him."
"He needed someone to give him a chance. I'm glad he found you and
some of his other kin."
"Thanks," she smiled up at him. "You know his father has been visiting
too, from Dragonsfall?"
"I heard that," he said with a nod.
K'yne's activities were none of her business anymore and she was just
fine with that. Maybe, just maybe, she could tease a little smile out
of N'vanik, he seemed like he might need a little release from the
serious nature of his job. "I imagine you hear all sorts of things,"
she grinned.
"Too much for my own good sometimes." Now that he was finally really
looking at her, N'vanik realized Timassa was beautiful.
Meanwhile, she was also evaluating him thinking he might like a bit of
uncomplicated fun. "So are you heading down for dinner? Want some
company?"
N'vanik had been planning on ordering food up to his weyr, but he
wondered if _she_ needed company. "Sure."
"Great," she said with twinkling eyes. "We can get to know each other
a little better." Her words were heavy with innuendo.
"I think I'd like that." N'vanik smiled and offered his arm.
She smiled and tucked her hand into his elbow and they headed to the
dining cavern.
~~~ sometime later~~~
Timassa rolled over and brushed the damp tendrils of hair out of her
eyes. "Boy am I glad I ran into you," she gasped as she tried to
regain her breath.
N'vanik laughed, his chest heaving with exertion. "You should go thank
that corner for blocking your view."
"You should do a little thanking of your own," she quipped back at him
"Seems to me you got almost as much enjoyment out of that as I did."
"True enough." His fingers toyed with a strand of her fiery hair.
"You're _very_ enjoyable company." It was a nice bit of stress relief
after the last few days.
"So are you," she grinned. She looked into his eyes with a bit of a
mischevious smile. She knew he had a weyrmate so she didn't have to
worry about him becoming possessive. Besides, he really was a pleasant
diversion. "We'll have to do it again sometime," she added just like
she was a blooded Lady inviting him over for tea.
"Minus crashing into each other."
"Well, yes," she nodded. "Minus that." She tilted her head and looked
like she was thinking. "Except maybe if I wanted to get your
attention. I mean you being so important and all."
"Ah but you're a _wingthird_ and everybody knows me and D'hol don't
get along so well. It would be easy for you to stop by my office to...
ehem.. discuss important Wing business." He gave her a sly smile.
"I'd be happy to discuss important Wing business with you anytime
Weyrleader," she waggled her eyebrows at him with a similar smile.
