Description: Anaeryth summons Seneth to chase in the middle of Dolphin Cove Weyr's Threadfall, and F'lin has to make a choice
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 23 of Turn 9
Notes: Mentioned: Lanniya, K'ran, Jeyme
F'lin usually led the second wave of Threadfall after overseeing Rapid's ground crew for the first wave. Now it was his turn, and as he and Seneth rose above the clouds and fixed the /between/ position in their minds to share with the Wing, he found himself a little-- bored. A dangerous state for a Wingrider. But there it was, lurking just beneath the crisp gestures he used to direct the Wing as they came out from /between/ and rose to relieve the greens and blues that had fought through the first half of the Fall.
The transition went smoothly. It always went smoothly. This was a Weyrleader's Wing-- or was, formerly. Even though discipline was a bit lax these days (through no fault of K'ran's, it was hard to keep as sharp flying at a low elevation) Rapids was a finely tuned fighting Wing that was used to much more complex maneuvers than this. Or had been, once. F'lin cast an envious look up to where Hurricane flew. He could see the bright spots of flame flaring bright as they took on the bulk of Thread-- and he missed it.
}:Thread coming,:{ Senneth said, pulling his thoughts back to Rapids and his duty. It was a large clump, already half-charred by Cyclone's riders. The Cyclone nine that had been circling it broke off to return to their elevation, leaving Rapids to do clean-up -- or as much as they could manage before it fell to the Queen's Wing. F'lin signaled for the left nine to take it, then told Seneth to fly up and take their customary position on Rogueth's right. He raised his hand in greeting to his Wingleader and Jeyme on Quinneth, then broke off to sweep the far right flank of their Wing.
Seneth began to rumble beneath him. }:Anaeryth rises.:{
**Wait-- what!?** F'lin felt his heart drop in his chest. Anaeryth couldn't be rising. Not now, not with Thread in the sky...
...Thread in the sky here, but Dragonsfall Weyr's skies were clear. And he'd promised Lanniya that he'd be there.
}:She rises-- but Thread.:{ Seneth turned his attention to the silvery curtain above them. Indecision warred within the dragon's chest. Thread was his enemy and his purpose, but when a Queen dragon called, a bronze answered.
F'lin wavered as well, then felt disappointment settle over him like a shroud. This was his duty, here to his Weyr and Wing. He squared his shoulders. Rapids deserved better than a Wingsecond who even _considered_ personal business in the middle of a 'Fall. He couldn't abandon his Wing. Lanniya would just have to understand.
**Weyr first, then Wing,** he told Seneth. It was a reminder to himself as well. **Today we fight Thread.**
